KOEB 9/11/05: A three-hour Keith. A three-hour Keith.
Posting this one a little early tonight so the table is set:

Tantric Keith is going to spend three hours with us tonight.

Can *you* handle it?

Expect lots of Katrina mixed with 9/11...and lots of good television.

131. Hi Patsy, I caught it from 7:30 until 9, what bliss, a whole extra half
hour of Keith. Had to give up the tv at 9. Just now catching up on this thread.

I have to say it was very hard to see Mr. Bush (as KO refers to him) posing for his photo ops with the NYFD guys. I've got a few friends in that department, one who lost his entire firehouse, and it is especially hard to see some of them accepting His Fraudulency's version of what happened on 9/11.

I will say this: The Lions really do have GB's number. They wiped the floor with us.

14 - yes, FOURTEEN penalties for 100 yards. Four of those go to Ahmad Carroll. Sounds like Sherman's gonna have some butt for lunch tomorrow.

Do the people even have access to computers to check out these websites? Is that what your project is doing for them?

Do they have TVs set up in the shelters so they can follow what's going on?

Part of my project -- not my bit --
is a major donation from Dell to get computers on the ground. I don't know much about that part or what it's like in the shelter.

seems to be the actions of private citizens, doing what the government failed to do. I'm all for applauding the heroes, but I'm not gonna clap so loud that it drowns out the well-deserved criticism of the people who didn't do the jobs they were supposed to do.

43. LOTS of people are saying that right now.
Around here, a lot of people were helped, and survived the depression through the CCC camps - and we've got some gorgeous state parks because of their labor, too.

It's a win-win. And it keeps Halitosis, um, I mean Halliburton, out of the picture.

145. I guess that gives us a clue
Edited on Mon Sep-12-05 11:03 AM by gkhouston
as to who's eavesdropping and who isn't. I was peeking at the ratings from last Thursday night again -- Countdown at 800K and Rita in the 600K range. Not good news for Rita, as she was doing better than Countdown for a while there. She feasts on tabloid fare, and you'd think she'd be going to town on all the stories of tragedy, but apparently viewers, in a crisis, want... actual news with Keith. Who'd've thunk it? Granted, her numbers post-Katrina are up from her pre-Katrina numbers, but Keith's are up by a much larger percentage. I wonder which one of them will retain more of their audience as the crisis eases.

on edit: and no, I don't think KO's ratings are up because his wardrobe has improved, LOL! That preceded Katrina.

147. I've made that observation before
when people want to be entertained, they'll tune in to rita, btb, faux, etc. when they want to be *informed*, they'll tune in to countdown. i think the ratings are going up (bit by bit) because viewers are finding that they can be both entertained & informed watching countdown. :)

i don't think there's a correlation between the improved wardrobe & improved ratings...that just falls into the "bonus points" category for me...i've always thought the wardrobe gripes were part of the eccentricity of the koeb.

is how one could find Rita entertaining. Or even watchable. Give me the Weather Channel any day; at least none of their broadcasters have voices that grate on my nerves, although they must be running a fertility clinic on the side. Have you noticed how many pregnant meteorologists you see on TWC? I guess we know how they kill time after they lose power when they're on location during hurricanes...

59. Evening my fellow KOEBers
Hope everyone is well this day.

I want to thank everyone for their prayers and good wishes for myself and my boy Sheridan. I'm trying to keep good thoughts.

It's great we have 3 hours of Keith to drool over. :) Too bad it's on such a terrible subject.

I had an interesting morning today. Around 10am I heard tires squealing in the parking lot of my apartment complex. My balcony faces the parking lot and I hear everything, loud car music, kids playing, dog's barking, etc. My first thought was that someone was trying to drag race. It's happened before.

About this time I hear a woman screaming at the top of her lungs and a small white pickup lunges into view in the lot. I see a man fighting with a woman on the passenger side of the truck. She is kicking and screaming and he was slapping and punching her.

Well I grabbed my phone and called 911, and began giving them all the details. This guy finally crawls over the woman and into the truck--(I didn't know if this was a car-jacking or what) After crawling over her, he pops out the driver's side door holding a car-seat in one hand and a baby in the other(The baby looked to be around 6 mos to a year). I was horrified since I didn't know what was going on. The woman of course was screaming and trying to reach for her child.

He then gets back in the truck and tries to push the woman out. She fought him hard. He finally succeeds and tries to drive off, but she's hanging on to the passenger side door and manages to get back into the cab of the truck and they disappear from my view.

Long story short(still with me)--the police show up later with the woman and her baby and I give my statement. Turns out it was a domestic dispute--Father shows up to pick up baby at mother's apartment and they get into big fight. She decides she doesn't want him to take the baby--well you know the rest.

So as you can see, I had an interesting morning.

When the police officer returned to get my statement, he kinda made a similar joke about 911 on 9/11. We also talked about the possibility of Charlotte getting any of the fall-out from Hurricane Ophelia spinning away out there in the Atlantic.

He was the one that told me it was a domestic dispute--I feel bad for the poor baby involved in all this. If the parents can't behave when the child is young, what's going to happen as he/she gets older?

Remember the hurricane in 96? I lived in Asheboro at the time, and I had two friends from Durham come and stay with me for a week, because of all the trees down and loss of power.

I'm hoping and praying this one heads out to the Atlantic.

PS - I LOVE your new Sheridan pic!

139. so the response is to not respond -- ever?
because basically, that's what happened. Or do they respond strategically? If the city's important enough? If the residents are rich enough or white enough or something else enough? What's the metric for making an effort?

When you've got level-headed people like Craig skipping down the tinfoil hat path, you know it looks bad. I'll admit, when folks on DU first started to say the lack of response was deliberate, I thought that was too tin-foil-hatty (yes, I know that's not a real word; deal) because incompetence can be simply stunning in its breadth and depth, at times. But as the week went on, and more and more help was turned away and things got worse and worse -- you gotta wonder -- how could they fuck it up this bad without wanting to, at some level? Why couldn't they have arranged massive food/water drops three or four days into the crisis, on short notice? Has Iraq really stretched us that thin?

to my wing-nut cousin who kept sending me "Blame everyone but Bush" emails, which amazingly always cited Faux as a source. :eyes:

I pointed out that if his Dear Leader really WAS a leader, WHY THE HELL DIDN'T HE PICK UP THE DAMN PHONE & CALL THE GOVERNOR HIMSELF if it was true that she didn't follow proper procedure? Ex: "Hi, Gov. Blanco, this is the President. I hear you're having some problems down there. Need any help?" I'm sure she's in the phone book somewhere.

JEEZUS. :banghead:

Mississippi's not getting that much press, but they're in a bad way, too. What was blivet** thinking? 72. I'm Here at Last! What a HORRIBLE day.
Oh, gang...what a hideous day. A virus ate my computer, and I've had a tech out here trying to rebuild it. The bad news...because it's so old (Windows 95, don't laugh!!!), the long and the short of it is that I have to buy a new PC. I can't get the software I lost (Internet Explorer 5.5, etc.), so I'm amazed I'm even able to get in.

Still, it could be worse. I knew at some point I'd have to get a new PC, so it's not a total shock. I spoke with Dave, my Jossip.com boss, and he told me he'd hold my internship for as long as I need until I'm able to get email, etc., working again.

And I keep telling myself...look at those people KO is talking to tonight. They lost EVERYTHING. This is a financial hit, nothing more.

The worst part? I MISS YOU GUYS!!

Hopefully, this will post...

I was crying SOOOO hard, that she shaved $100 off my bill. I was so heartsick that I'm looking at yet ANOTHER bill. At least Dave is letting me keep my internship. That, my faith, and my friends, are what's keeping my sanity right now.

I did see a great deal that my tech told me about, that should be around $500 (after taxes). I'll still have to buy an MS Office suite and a virus protector, but it'll give me the basics that I don't have now.

Best of all? I'll FINALLY be able to get ESPN radio, and watch Countdown video clips!

And I keep reminding myself...compared to others (including my board buddies), I am SO blessed. This, too, shall pass!!!

96. Hi everyone
Needed a KO fix after a long weekend.
I have been listening to the horrors of Pearlington, MS. firsthand. A person should not have to hear a grown man that is a Vietnam Vet, that works with the poorest, homeless and neediest on a daily basis yell, shout and cry over what he is seeing now.
To fill everyone on, My sister and her SO have a non-profit in Orlando. They gathered two tractor trailers of food, medical supplies, water, pet food, vet medical supplies and a vet and headed to help hurricane victims and their pets. Even took a micro chip reader to try to identify pets. They have experience after Charlie et all last year. They connected with a shelter in MS and so headed there. Good thing since no one had bothered to bring those people anything unless the Guard or military took it for them. (They are raving over what the NG, Army etc have done.) Maybe the short email begging me to call says it best
Hello,

Here is the location and contact numbers. Please call Marc, Cindy, he can tell better.

They need help people need to bring trucks of supplies desperately. The Red Cross isn't doing shit even the military is saying the hell with them and Bush and taking all the supplies they can take to the church groups set up for fast distribution.

Marc is staying up there to help get supplies to people with no transportation.

Love Terri

It was all already breaking my heart but to hear them talk about it and the total emotional hit it gave them just broke my heart even more. I know many are praying for the people in the areas but they need more prayers, and the small towns need to be remembered along with the big ones with news crews.

I had read through the thread and debated saying anything or even talking/typing. Only because I am not even there and wrung out just being a shoulder to lean on.
So on the thread, crispini, you had a great idea in your other thread (had to go look) and I will write letters to my senators and reps plus get others to.

Grey (who I am still praying gets a miracle),after what you saw today and what we have all witnessed the last week the world does seem dark but then someone like you pays attention and does what is right, proving the world is not near as dark as it seems.

are probably other small non-profits helping too in other small towns. Biggest thing is to not go through channels. The vet happened to know the President of Ponchartrain Humane Society so they skipped red tape and had a"contact at site".
Makes me want to do more though, so have that bit of guilt being here cool, fed and all. But that is my problem to figure out. I did remind them to take ferret, pocket pet, bird and reptile food.
They are sending pictures once they are back and get them developed.

drive by on their way to a Red Cross centers where people are suppose to go get what they need. Course the people there don't have a way to get to the center since everything was washed away. Part of why Marc is staying behind, to shuttle people to the centers and knowing him raise hell about how people shouldn't have to walk 15 or so miles for water. Marc never even mentioned fema or HS so thinking they may not be there. I do know some National Guard (MS, TN and AL)troops (and Army) are doing everything they can. Including breaking the rules.
I know the Red Cross needs more volunteers so might just be the most effective way of doing it for them.

130. Saw this before shutting down
and living in a small town I do know how they can be semi forgotten. That is where the grassroot non-profit pick up the slack and try to do as much as possible with what little they do have. We will always need the small, selfless organizations to fill in and need to remember they are there and need too. Hopefully by getting the news out anyway we can then others will find those that need them so desperately.

off to bed now so I can function tomorrow. Hugs. Still praying for a miracle. Scratch Sher's belly for me.

She almost seems like a robotic Stepford wife.

116. Very interesting.
Apparently she led a bid to allow the patenting of genes ... that "tablet" article calls her 'a medical bureaucrat, rather than by a card-carrying research scientist.' :P

GOVERNOR TAFT ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENTS TO THE
OHIO COMMISSION TO REFORM MEDICAID

COLUMBUS (November 5, 2003) - Governor Bob Taft today announced appointments to the newly created Ohio Commission to Reform Medicaid. The Commission, created in House Bill 95, will conduct a complete review of the state Medicaid program and make recommendations for comprehensive reform and cost containment to the Governor, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Senate President no later than January 1, 2005. The Commission consists of nine members: three appointed by the Governor, three by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and three by the President of the Senate. Members are not compensated.

"Medicaid is the largest and one of the fastest growing portions of our state's budget," said Taft. "The Ohio Commission to Reform Medicaid will provide recommendations on how we can control Medicaid growth and more effectively manage this program."

Governor Taft appointed the following individuals to serve on the Ohio Commission to Reform Medicaid:

<snip>

Dr. Bernadine Healey, of Cleveland, appointed by Governor Taft. Dr. Healey is the former CEO of the American Red Cross and a former Dean of The Ohio State University Medical School.

I think she was head of the Red Cross on 9/11.

http://www.icann.org/tlds/org/applications/dotorgfoundation/yahoo_article/redcross_overhaul.html

WASHINGTON (Reuters Health) - The American Red Cross (news - web sites) announced on Wednesday plans to revamp its fundraising practices in the wake of public outcry over the organization's use of money intended for victims of September 11.

The shift will take the form of new marketing standards governing appeals to the public for contributions. Red Cross officials said they will change the way the group solicits donations for its Disaster Relief Fund by improving disclosure to contributors about how the money may be spent.

The group was rocked by widespread complaints that funds raised in response to the attacks were steered toward disasters not related to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon (news - web sites). Officials said the reforms were an essential part of regaining public trust.

The ensuing controversy helped bring about the ouster of former Red Cross president Dr. Bernadine Healey and led to the appointment of former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell to independently oversee one of the organization's funds.

120. Healy was also running the Red Cross on 9/11
back when they were accused of being sloppy about the way they directed donations people made after 9/11...using them for other purposes instead.

Actually, I was on their side in that sense. 9/11 didn't bring all other crises to an end. The Red Cross still needed money for other crises.

114. Keith is really doing a superb job.
He's putting Rita & Co. to shame. He's a voice of authority, questioning, and totally in control.

Damn, we could have used him a week ago.

122. Would expect no less
from him, so of course he is doing a great job. If he wasn't I think I would have to send an emergency crew to check on him. (Any volunteers to be a part of that crew?) I too missed him last weekend but in a way need him more this weekend and he will not let * off the hook. And since some are starting to go with the spin we need Keith to keep it in people's minds how bad * was.

I knew he'd do it, but after last weekend's hystrionics with Rita, Tucker & Co., he showed how far and away he is better than the pack.
