So I have a date tonight, the problem is..
as soon as she mentioned the time she wanted me to meet her... I realized it was the same time Countdown comes on. Not only that... she called me to ask me out yesterday right when the show started.

Already, she's cutting into my Keith time.

That may be the gayest sentence I have ever written. (not that there is anything wrong with that.... just ask George Costanza and Jerry Seinfeld)

Now, Bill, you might say, what the hell are you complaining about? You have an attractive, intelligent woman who calls you and asks you out on a date, yet you are still worried about watching Keith Olbermann - that's the Sportscenter guy right?- get your priorities straight. I mean serious, it isn't like you- by which I mean me- have been beating women off with a stick or anything lately. (well, besides RevCheesehead :loveya: )

Maybe I can be lucky enough (or unlucky) to get home in time for the replay?

I am a sad, tragic, sick individual, I know. :)

1. sweetie, I've got two suggestions
1. Buy a VCR.
2. Introduce her to Keith, but only after she's sold on you. :smoke:

2. I can't record digital cable
Already thought of the "recording" thing. Although I could rob a bank and buy a DVR. Hmmmm.....

Oh, I plan on introducing her to Keith. Slowly but surely I will get that one in. I've already made my brother a diehard Countdown fan. That was easy though. I may have to finesse this one. :)

3. I record digital cable all the time
You just have to make sure that your VCR & cable box are on the same channel. My VCR is set on Channel 3, then I set the cable box to the channel of the show I want to record. Downside: Can't record a show on one channel & watch one on another.

I wish I had a date tonight.

6. that effer from Best Buy must've lied to me
I wonder how much Cox Communications is paying him?

Normally, I would be wishing I had one as well, like pretty much everyday of my life. Somehow I walked right into this one, much like "Forrest Gump" found his way into so many wacky adventures. Sometimes it's better to be dumb and lucky (or as I call it "charmingly inept") than good. :)

13. he didn't try to sell me one actually
I was getting some stuff to record with my vcr and mentioned that I had digital cable, and he just said, "Oh, you can't record it." I was, "are you serious?" He said, "yeah," and that was that. So then my uncle and I just walked out and talked about how bad that sucked. I wish he would have tried to sell me one, I had the cash then, dammit. (student loans, wonderfully misspent) :)

17. I had to get the cable guy to show me
when I first got digital cable, but I've moved since then & was able to set it up on my own in my new place. If a :dunce: like me can do it, anyone can.

Maybe you could teach me how to walk into a date like that. It would be nice. :) Have fun!

8. hon, I'll let you in on a little secret
on rare occasions, when I feel bad, or better yet, when I feel extremely bad , I go to bed without watching KO. Thus far, the sun has continued to rise.

11. Blasphemy!!!!
actually, I do miss the show from time to time. I also haven't been watching it all that long, since I just got cable a few months ago. Yet, back in the old days I was a Sportscenter junkie. :)

19. I did that last summer
Trust me, it's not that bad & besides, you might pick up some REAL news instead of the "missing white woman of the week" distraction that will be shown ad nauseum on all shows but Countdown. My cousin & I had absolutely no idea that there was a missing teen in Aruba because all of the British press had been focused on Blair's trip to the US & how he was upset that shrubbie didn't support his environmental proposals even though Blair had supported shrubbie in invading Iraq.

18. no way!
She's not overly political in a partisan type way, but the only campaign she ever worked on was Raul Grijalva who is one of the most liberal members of Congress. She's a strong feminist though. Brought a Spanish language version of "The Vagina Monologues" to Tucson, been to Ciudad Juarez to protest the deaths of all the women there etc. She's got an activist mentality though, fights for women's issues and so on. She doesn't eat, drink, sleep politics like I do, but she knows what is right and worth fighting for. Her occupation is an outreach worker for abused women. That seriously impressed me. :)

23. Just asking
because Botany has a bad habit of finding Republican women to date. :) She sounds like a keeper. In the tradition of The American President I pass along this advice: compliment her shoes -- girls like that.

Good luck tonight.

p.s. How do you say "The Vagina Monologues" en Espanol?

16. hey!
I resemble that remark!! :spank::spank::spank:

Go ahead and have fun without me. But if this becomes a regular thing, we're going to have to have a KOEB conference, to determine if she is good enough for you.

And seriously, check out that Republican thing. No use wasting your time, ya know? ;)

Have fun!

22. Bill, you are making me laugh.
I have been there. I have done that. I have had dates where I have thought to myself "damn, I'll have to tape Keith." And dates where, when I was on them, I thought "I wish I were at home watching Keith."

But take heart. If all else fails, why not watch Keith on the re-air? And if things start going well, yeah, introduce the woman to Keith. You just may find watching him much more interesting--especially the next time Keith says "For those of you scoring at home..."

Wouldn't it be a hoot if she said "Keith Olbermann? Love him! In fact, I was a little hesitant about going out with you, knowing I'd miss him!"

The only possible downside? Things are going well...then you introduce her to Keith...and she spends all her time staring raptly at the screen...game over.
