I've missed the other coverage of the Cynthia McKinney story, has KO been hard on her. Did he put her in worst person in the world this week?

She did ask some very difficult questions of Rummy about the war and uncomfortably difficult 9/11 questions of lots of people in this administration. She is a prickly lady but I kind of wonder whether or not its a coincidence that this happened to her. She definitely shouldn't have given them any ammunition to use against her, if in fact she did sock the officer with the cell phone. Russell Crowe and Naomi Campbell have the assault by phone market cornered anyway.

What's been the opinion of the KOEB on this Congressman McKinney giving bad phone story?

The past two nights is it. Of course, some DU'ers think he never should have covered her at all because she was completely in the right, a noble Fighter For Our Cause, a Victim of Centuries of Oppression, simply asserting her rights, yadda yadda yadda. So reporting her story AT ALL (sympathetically, in a balanced way or whatever) meant that one was selling out to Conservative Media Whoredom. *yawn*

I really don't know what to make of the whole incident. The KOEB as a whole doesn't appear to have an opinion, either. Personally, I'm glad she just apologized and got it out of the way. Now the thing is over and doesn't need to linnger and fester, with Dems taking sides and squabbling viciously over it while Repugs break out the popcorn and enjoy the show. Not only that, but it gave them a golden opportunity to point fingers at Dems for a "morality lapse." Please.

There are bigger fish to fry than the McKinney stuff. The phrase "eyes on the prize" is operative here. Why get all exercised over McKinney when there are more important issues at stake? Such as whether the president threw Valerie Plame under the bus to save his own political neck (or other part of his anatomy)? Please, let's not lose sight of that. That's what I say, anyway.

the story does lend itself to accusations of racism (yeah, like their hard-core base would care, but the fence-sitters might), it emphasizes the police state mentality that has taken hold in DC, and most importantly, a lot of everyday Americans have got to be wondering, "Jeez, don't they have anything better to be obsessed with? Like my problems? Hello, am I invisible? Are they that out of tune with what's happening to our country?"

Can you believe Delay resigns and then sends his thugs out to disrupt Lampson's press conference, makes them look like the bunch of jackbooted thugs their base really is, and there's tape of them assaulting a 69 year old woman.

I just worry about how deeply they will search for more dirty tricks and what they will come up with, we all know they will not go gently into that good night that's for sure. I sure am nervous about flying out of the country next week. Things here are coming to a big, ugly old pus-filled head and the criminals in office are sure to get desperate.

I read an interesting opinion yesterday commenting on how many Republicans seem to be under indictment or have huge skeletons in their closet. I never looked at it this way, but what if the party (meaning Rove and Co.) are vetting these people, know about their ahem 'pecadillos and indiscretions' (child predators, money lauderers, stock swindling) and that is precisely what they want in a party member, so that when or if they get out of line, there is something to hold over their heads or punish them with if they get froggy and decide to break ranks. It's an interesting take on it, not necessarily what I agree with, but it certainly would explain the huge amounts of degenerate, scumbaggery that is rampant in today's Republican majority.

Interesting theory to account for the general scumminess that seems to currently characterize too much of the Republican leadership. When loyalty to the party is the only criteria and you don't care how you enforce it, I guess having a "hold" over someone is actually desirable. Ugh. 'Course, when news of such behavior leaks out, what effect is that going to have on the average voter?

at least a shoving match. I'm guessing the incident happened, and that the guy probably really didn't recognize her. He may have overreacted initially to her going past the checkpoint because she was Legislating While Black but she may be one of those Congresscritters who expects the rest of the world to make way for her. The indignation on both sides could also be covering sheepishness, as both parties were in the wrong -- she should have been wearing a lapel pin, and he should have recognized her. Impossible to tell what the truth is, from where we sit. That the police are talking about pressing charges smells of politics -- this should have been a 5-minute scuffle and if it had happened to a junior R congressman, it would have been a one-sentence mention in the news on one day, if that. I think KO's coverage of this has been good -- he hasn't really been digging in on one side or the other, which is appropriate, IMO. I have no idea what GD is saying about it. I've been staying out of those threads, as the whole matter seems like much ado over very little to me.
