1. I heard on the traffic reports in Houston that some areas were

a mess with lights out, but I got lucky and didn't run into any problems. Where in Houston are you gk?

2. work in the Med Center area, live just outside the Loop

more of a nuisance than anything else. At first I thought it was just a local problem; wouldn't be the first time a squirrel's gotten in a transformer and kaboom! Didn't realize it was a statewide problem until I was listening to KUHF on the way home. First thing I thought of was Enron and the "shortages" in California but it could be that the early heat truly caught them off-guard. We'll see how the summer progresses.

3. No, not here yet

although I live in the part of town where the lights go out if someone sneezes near a transformer. :eyes: We've already hit the century mark here, too, & nada thus far. ::fingers crossed::

My personal fave was Halloween Night a year ago. I was in my living room talking to my cousin on the phone when all my lights went out. I screamed. Loud. I think she's still partially deaf in that ear. Anyway, turns out the transformer my lines are on was about to blow, so they came out & replaced it, forgetting about what day it was in their rush. :rofl:

4. bwah!

I was in a minor rear-end collision some years ago with a friend sitting in the car next to me. Very minor accident, just one of those bumps at the light where the guy behind you is rarin' to go and hits the gas full steam as you ease down on the accelerator. I let out an involuntary yelp, all the same. After we'd checked bumpers (no harm done) and the guy behind us had apologized three times, my friend said, "you know those nightmares most people have, where something awful is about to happen and you want to scream but no sound comes out?" "Yes." "You don't ever need to worry about that." :rofl:

Yes, I come from a family whose startle-reflex is set on high. I think it's genetic. :rofl:

But, in my defense, to go from having your lights & TV on AT NIGHT to all of a sudden ::poof:: they're gone & it's pitch black & it's Halloween Night & just about every scary movie has this gimic just before someone gets axed horribly, well, I bet you'd scream too. ;)

I used to go back to the lab late at night, sometimes, so I could solder all by my lonesome. I didn't want to startle and burn myself or someone else.

But my company did their part inadvertently to reduce the load as one of the buildings' AC was broken. :rofl: Not my half, yay!
