"HOT BLOG" at Krispy Keith's! For REAL this time...
...and it's a comfort to know that Keith has still been able to find the mystery in all this...I expect there'll be hot bloggin' from him for some time to come on this one...

May 31, 2005 | 11:50p.m. ET

What did W. Mark Felt know, and when did he know it? (Keith Olbermann)

...Felt’s self-identification in the pages of Vanity Fair -- only confirmed an uncomfortable six hours later by the Post - seems to raise more questions than it answers, and signals not the end of the “Throat” mystery, but merely its mutation into something stranger and maybe more pertinent.

1. Just wrote to Keef. I kind of scolded him a bit about letting Buchanan
drivel on about Deep Throat/Felt being dishonorable for leaking information about a sitting President, after all he took an oath. What a crock, Nixon took an oath too and he broke it. DT just did precisely what was honorable in revealing the 'high crimes and misdemeanors' of the sitting President, Tricky Dick Nixon.

I also complimented him on the blog about DT too so it wasn't all criticism.
:-)

2. actually, I enjoyed the irony of Buchanan presuming to lecture
anyone on "honor", since he was obviously still worshiping at the altar of Nixon. As my husband said to the TV, "Still a little bitter, Pat?"

3. I know but I wanted Keef to snark a bit at him, just to let us know he

knows Pat is a lying sack of shite. I just feel that KO is reluctant to challenge his guests, especially when they work at the same station as he does. In general they book Buchanan way too much for my taste on Countdown. Isn't it enough of an insult to the American people that he has his own show on the Network. Enough already. He was a good contrast to John Dean however, and made Dean look all the more honest and scholarly by comparison.

4. that doesn't appear to be his style. Perhaps he realizes that the
viewers who realize the guests are full of shit don't need a tip-off from KO and the ones who don't aren't going to respond to any hint subtler than a baseball bat. Or maybe he thinks we should be able to figure it out for ourselves. I mean, to me, it was pretty flaming obvious, both that Buchanan was bloviating and that KO was being polite to him but thinking that Buchanan was bloviating. And I wasn't even actually looking at the TV most of the time; I'm trying to get a sewing project done. (Which is great for when blivet** starts talking -- gosh, I need to overcast this seam at high speed -- whooops! can't hear the TV. Oh, darn!!)

5. Just one little snark, that's all I wanted. One that preferably would have
gone over the Buchanan's head, much like the interview he did with Ali G. Did you see that? It was hysterical, he was clueless he was being played. Keef could've pulled that off.

6. Well, I think I'm with gk on this one.
Maybe Keith is more reluctant to go after him than he is to go after some of his other right-wing wacko guests who are only on a time or two but are not "colleagues." But even so, I think Pat's lapdog attitude toward Nixon is self-evident without Keith having to twist the knife.

Then again, it's kinda icky to think that if by some hideous twist of fate Bill O'Reilly were working for MSNBC, he'd be playing nice with him...*shudder* I hope not.

7. Yeah, but Bun-Bun, did you call him a Nazi?
You realize you'll get an answer from him only if you call him a Nazi! :-)

8. Really? I would never call him a Nazi. Even if it meant he'd write me back
I luff him. He's a pussycat (with caterpillar eyebrows)

9. Oh, I agree. Just pet those brows and listen to him purr!
Just kiddin'. I think calling Keith a Nazi might be a bit of an extreme way to get a reaction out of him!

But seriously though, I'm wondering now...given his confession of last night, that he personally thought Pat Buchanan WAS Deep Throat...if maybe THAT explains why he's kept the kid gloves on him all this time. Maybe he figured if he was nice to Pat, Pat would someday divulge all of his deep dark Deep Throat secrets to Keith.

That not being the case, though, maybe all bets are off now--and Keith will treat Pat like just another conservative who's a little tetched in the head!

OR...the plot just thickens from here...Keith, unable to buy the "one Deep Throat" story, will now poke and prod and probe Pat...trying to get him to 'fess up...because Keith theorizes that despite his superficial Nixon-lapdog image, Pat WAS part of a more extensive Deep Throat operation..."Sore Throat" or something...

To find out more, keep tuning in to Countdown!

10. it occurs to me that some of Pat's outrage is meant to deflect
speculation that he's a Shallow Throat... and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he is.

11. I always watch Countdown, just not always able to watch the early show.
Last night I couldn't stay up to watch the late version either (had to up super early next day) so I did not get to hear Keef reveal that he'd always suspected Buchanan was DT.

Yes, our KO does seem very sceptical of the single DT version, he seems more inclined towards the multiple Deep Throats version. Investigate Keef, get an exclusive.

12. Maybe strep throat?
I hear that's really annoying.

I'll try to make it to the meeting tonight, but it's parental duty time once again. The good news is that Mom got her computer back. :)
