Brand Spankin' New Blog: "More questions than answers" - 6/1/05

SECAUCUS — As Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein continued to work on their promised front page opus in Thursday’s Washington Post — no doubt hoping to avoid the title if not the premise of “Now It Can Be Told!” — there are certainly hundreds of questions they feel are worthy of answering.

There may be some surprises — among the questions as well as the answers — but if the following eight headline queries aren’t addressed, they’ll have to write more than just the one piece for the Post.

Question #1. About the 18-Minute gap — the infamous “erasure” on one of the tapes recorded inside the Oval Office — which Nixon tried to blame on an “accident” involving his faithful secretary, Rose Mary Woods. In November, 1973, long before the gap was public knowledge, Woodward wrote that he learned of its “suspicious nature” from Deep Throat.

But Mark Felt, passed over for promotion, had left the FBI five months earlier. Where did he get the information about the tape? Gossip? Old friends?

1. I'm glad he's asked all these questions...
Because I want to know the answers to them and why did Felt determine that the time is neigh?

And... I love the fact that the reluctant Post got left "twisting in the wind." If the only investigation they can do in 33 years is "Monicagate," they deserve to be scooped.

2. I'm foreseeing a great week for the KOEB...

...at least for those who can stand his taking time out from bashing the current administration to go Deep Throat truth-seeking...should make for some great shows and a fairly regular series of eruptions from Mt. Bloggermann. There's nothing like Keith when he sinks his teeth into one of his favorite subjects...and this time it ain't baseball!

Sit back, grab a box of popcorn and enjoy. This may be the best week of Keith we've seen since his papal coverage!

On edit: That is, if Keith isn't so entranced with Deep Throat and Deep Throat alone that he refuses to cover anything else, and goes only a few innings each night before surrendering the mound to his "relief pitcher"!
