Movie details rising tide of anti-Semitism in Europe (xpost from EOA)
A young man is walking to his synagogue in London when a group of boys approaches on bicycles. As they pass, one of them punches the young man in the face, unprovoked.

“That’s what happens to Jews,” he says, as they ride off.

Does the incident herald another Holocaust?

That’s not a flippant question.

When do the margins become the mainstream? When do isolated incidents become the norm? The rallying cry of “Never Again,” by its nature, demands watchfulness, because preventing a Holocaust requires the world to recognize what the seeds of a Holocaust are.

I hope people in this group discuss this article.

1. This image is enough to cause one to pause
from the link that you provided

The sad fact, at least among the left, is that Jews and Israelis are now inter changed, and Israel is the bad guy, not matter what.

Worse, many now shrug when they hear talk about the Holocaust as "ancient history" or just to catalog it among other genocides like the Armenians, the Cambodian, many in Africa and of course the atrocities performed by Saddam Hussein and Syria's Assad against their own people.

Add to this the evangelical "support" of Israel and you close the circle of the left indifference.

5. You make some very good points.
I like your term, "circle of left indifference." That pretty much sums up many problems and is, imo, more of an issue than some of the acts.

2. I haven't had the chance to read the article yet
but to me, the question becomes, once we have acknowledged that anti-Semitism is on the rise, how do we react? What is the best way to handle incidents and to keep them from increasing, both in intensity and in frequency?

I'll come back after I've read the article.

3. For subscribers of the LA Times, protesting this comment

We all know that Jew's regardless of thier self appointed nationality are the real mafia. They always have and always will be the most secretive and sucessfull criminal organizion the world will ever see.Funny thing is usually they will set it up so that they not only silence thier own but will have thier cohorts in which controll the media to play along and blame it on thier sworn enemy the evil White man. Thus furthering their philosopbhy of killing two birds with one stone. Was their infamous "UZI" the weapon of choice here?

4. I don't know what can be done other than exposing it.
To me, what is more frightening is not the acts, but the excuses for it and the "rationalization" for those acts from supposed liberals and progressives. IMO, that is where are efforts should be directed, at those who dismiss anti-Semitism or minimize it.

6. The excuses and rationalizations are the killers
I have an African American friend who was embarrassed to tell his company's HR about racism in the workplace because he was afraid to be viewed as a "pain-in-the-ass". In a similar way, sometimes we are made to feel that we should not complain because we are supposedly exaggerating or being "over dramatic".

I lived in Brazil in the past and one Portuguese saying perfectly explains the indifference but I don't know if it makes sense in English. The saying goes, "Pimenta no cú dos outros é refresco" and it translates to "a hot pepper up someone else's ass is refreshing".

7. Completely agree!
I have had similar situations with friends/employees who were female, gay, Hindu, African-American and I know I am missing a group or two. It reminds me of the old AIDS slogan from the 80's, "Silence = Death." The issue of reporting or even complaining about anti-Semitism is mocked, ignored, minimized, or treated with indifference. While some misappropriate the term, it is still very mich a problem, but as another poster said it has lead to a "circle of indifference."

(Thanks for the Portuguese. Been awhile since I had to use it.)
