from this weeks parshah \Devarim 1:1-3:22
Edited on Sat Jul-29-06 06:45 PM by voter x
struck me as relevant to the situation..

"6. "The Lord our God spoke to us in Horeb, saying, 'You have dwelt long enough at this mountain.
7. Turn and journey, and come to the mountain of the Amorites and to all its neighboring places, in the plain, on the mountain, and in the lowland, and in the south and by the seashore, the land of the Canaanites, and the Lebanon, until the great river, the Euphrates River.
8. See, I have set the land before you; come and possess the land which the Lord swore to your forefathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them and their descendants after them.
3. It came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first of the month, that Moses spoke to the children of Israel according to all that the Lord had commanded him regarding them;
4. After he had smitten Sihon, king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, and Og, king of the Bashan, who dwelt in Ashtaroth in Edrei.
5. On that side of the Jordan, in the land of Moab, Moses commenced explained this Law, saying,

1. I dare you to post that in GD
This, or the parshah where God tells Joshuah "fear not for their numbers, for the Lord himself fights for you" (IIRC).

9. Ahhh...now I see: I was referring to Condi Rice and the neocons
Edited on Sun Jul-30-06 04:48 PM by Lerkfish
the concept of her playing piano while people were being slaughtered.
and extending that to neocons drinking blood.

I apologize if that was misinterpreted to mean jews. If you'll note, my response was directly responding to the post about Condi playing piano.

See? this is how horrible misunderstandings happen.

If anyone should be mad at me, it would be neocons, or condi rice.

I apologize for your misunderstanding.

I edited to add: I assume you were the one who alerted on it due to your misunderstanding. If so, if you could reproduce it here, word for word, if you saved a copy, I'm sure we can straighten this whole thing out.

12. here's the proof of your misunderstanding...
------The OP said:

Gee Condi, hope your piano recital went well. By the way, the 'not wanting an immediate ceasefire', just snuffed out the lives of THIRTY SEVEN CHLDREN.

Have a nice day. Hope you sleep well.

to which my response was:

oh, don't worry, they (meaning neocons) always sleep well

after a midnight slurping at the trough of innocent blood.
Its what they live for.

some people, like you, have misinterpreted that to mean Isreal, when CLEARLY its referring to the OP's reference to Condi sleeping well. someone finally posted the deleted post so I could clear that up.

10. You were quoting
Edited on Sun Jul-30-06 06:09 PM by MrWiggles
a Christian translation of the commandment. THOU SHALT NOT MURDER is more like it. As it is stated in the Torah in its original Hebrew text. I'm sure everybody here agrees with you that THOU SHALT NOT MURDER is a very important commandment. I'm sure everybody here loves it as well. You just mentioned it when the subject was other. The discussion was about the current parshat (Parshat Devarim) -- not random Torah quotations.

Nobody said you are not allowed in here.

The paranoia here is due to the fact that someone might be coming here to flame the board saying "you guys support war when you are commanded by your God not to kill... what a bunch of hypocrites... blah blah blah..." When it is an argument based on ignorance about Judaism. We, Jews, don't have to give the other cheek. That's a Christian value. Guess who the Nazis in WWII picked to be their barbers in the concentration camps? Jehovah witnesses. Jews would have the duty to cut the throat of a Nazi murderer if given the chance. Nazi's knew better than to give a blade to a Jew.

As stated in the Babylonian Talmud, Sanhedrin 72a, "If someone wishes to kill you, get up early and kill him first".

The paranoia is enhanced given the misunderstanding that you apologized for.

Anyhow, if flaming is not your intention than you are more than welcome in this forum.

13. That quote from the Talmud is one I have never seen before
That's good advice stated in a, well, humorously practical way. Thanks for posting it.

11. from passage 25
Edited on Sun Jul-30-06 06:53 PM by voter x
"25. Today I will begin to put the dread of you and the fear of you upon the nations that are under the entire heaven, who will hear reports of you and shake and be in trepidation because of you."

the entire parshah portion is an ancient description of a ever-tiring battle over the region.*
