Anyone have attacks where an eye wants to close on it's own?

I am having yet another one as I type this.
It began while I was on a job interview about a month ago. My left eye wanted to close on it's own and I began to kind of massage it to try to stop the symptom. A few days later, I was driving back to my office from a meeting, and it happened again. I had to physically hold it open or cup my hand over it as the blink rate was out of sync with my right eye and was affecting my ability to focus. In other words, my right eye blinks normally, but the left one is "lazy" to open at the same rate. Really weird.

I am also getting pain in the back of the left eyesocket.
It is now happening several times a week and is affecting my vision.
I will be calling an opthomologist (sp?) on Monday as I can tell this is not just a passing thing.
Any clues in the meantime?
