lyme blues
i'd been off my antibiotics for four months - the longest i'd been without them in 11 years. i thought it was finally over. my diet was so clean and nutritious, full of dark greens and good stuff. i was exercising. even dh said he had not seen me doing this well in years. well, all good things must come to an end i guess. crashed again. this is the 10th or 11th time, so i am officially giving up ever being free of the antibiotics. this crash is so bad i hope i'm making sense. my whole nervous system is shut down. i know from experience the worst of this should be over in a matter of days - if i stay on the antibiotics. anyway, i guess i just came here to whine for a while.

anybody else out there have this lovely tickborn crap going on?

have a good 4th, everybody.

1. Not tick-born,
but some other nonsense for me, possibly med-related.

I am sorry to hear this. It sounds awful.

I live in the country, and I take my dog for walks down a nearby trail. I pulled a tick out of my scalp the other day, and found one near my ear.

I know several people who have put up with Lyme Disease. Please take care of yourself.

2. I was "lucky" when I had Lyme
because I'd found the tick and yanked him, developed the characteristic "bull's eye" rash and spiked a temp to 104, so I got hit heavily and early with antibiotics and haven't had any sign that a single spirochete survived.

Lyme would have been the disease of the century if HIV hadn't happened along at about the same time.

At least you're getting treatment and can more or less function part of the time. It's a stinker to try to clear when it wasn't diagnosed early on and clobbered into submission.

5. I was infected in 1974
Lyme and Babesia.

Cedar Creek, Texas ... (Austin-Bastrop area)

Many different illnesses before diagnosis in 1993-94.
I will never be cured....don't believe there is cure for some of
us.

Spirochetes have a tendency to lay dormant for periods of time.

Good luck and keep taking your antibiotics if you can.

Bush had a brush with Lyme disease
Disclosure comes after his physical shows him to be in excellent health

By MAURA REYNOLDS

DOCTOR'S REPORT
Highlights from the president's medical report:

* Weight: The president, 61, weighed in at 192 pounds.

* Body fat: His body-fat quotient declined slightly over the past year to
16.6 percent from 16.8 percent.

* Pulse rate: He has a resting pulse rate of 52 beats per minute.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----
WASHINGTON - President Bush was treated for Lyme disease a year ago after he
developed the characteristic "bull's-eye" rash that often marks the onset of
the tick-borne disease, the White House reported Wednesday.

The disclosure came in Bush's annual medical report, which followed the
president's annual physical exam Tuesday. The report also noted that the
president lost four pounds in the past year and remains in "excellent"
health with "superior" physical fitness.

Lyme disease is caused by bacteria transmitted by infected ticks and, if
left untreated, can lead to arthritis-like symptoms and neurological
disorders.

White House officials did not specify the president's treatment but said he
received the "standard" treatment and developed no symptoms of the disease
other than the initial rash.

"It was the standard, recommended treatment for early, localized Lyme
disease," spokesman Scott Stanzel said.

According to the medical report, the rash appeared sometime in August 2006.
It was not clear where the president might have contracted the disease, but,
Stanzel said, "It's not unusual for the president to receive tick bites when
he is riding his mountain bike."

Because the incident did not affect the president's duties or his schedule,
it was not disclosed to the public at the time, Stanzel said. The president
did not have a blood test to confirm the diagnosis, Stanzel said, because he
did not develop more symptoms after treatment.

In past years, the president has traveled to the National Naval Medical
Center in Bethesda, Md., for his annual physical. This year, he underwent
tests in stages over a number of days, mostly at the White House.

"Doctors have determined that the president remains in superior fitness,"
White House spokesman Tony Snow said.
