It does work for some people, but does NOTHING for others. A friend of the family has been on it for more than 20 years and it has NEVER helped her--she's always exhausted and depressed, overweight, infertility, thinning hair, hair growing in the wrong places, bug eyes, you name it. It's like she's not taking anything at all. I feel so bad for her but she doesn't "get it" although I've tried to explain it to her.
There are a LOT of thyroid drugs on the market, and part of treating a thyroid problem is finding out which one works best for you (and at which dose).
Don't wait till your appointment--you'll be losing precious time. Call your doctor now and tell him/her how you feel. S/he might say to keep taking it a little longer, till your body starts to adjust to the meds. If that's the case, ask how long you should keep taking it before you can expect to see a change. It shouldn't be all the way till your next appointment. And if you get to the point where you know that the medication is affecting you adversely so much that it's not worth taking anymore, CALL and demand a different med. You have that right. Most doctors prescribe Synthroid by default; unfortunately it's up to us to request something different.
Good luck! :hi:
