Post-surgery leg pain
I had lumbar fusion of L3-5 on 9/24. Right after I came home, I experienced severe shooting pain down the same nerve that caused agony prior to surgery. This pain, however, was very different from the pain I had prior to surgery. It felt like a hot poker was sitting on the nerve. I was reassured that it was the nerve regenerating itself. That pain went away, however, w/in 2 weeks. The last several weeks the original pain has returned. It hurts again when I cough or sneeze, the exercises I do in PT make it worse.

So, am I back to sqare one or do you think it's still the nerve regenerating?

1. You need to discuss that with your PT person
and with the surgeon. Pain that returns after it has gone away postop signals that something might be going on unrelated to post op swelling, which is what caused the original postop pain.
