Paid a visit to the ER this past week end, still don't know what happened
Friday morning I woke up with excruciating back pain, (left kidney area)went the the bath room and got very dizzy and disoriented had to decide whether to lay on the floor to keep from falling and call SO or try to make it back to the bed, decided for the bed because it was close. Then I broke out in a cold sweat got very clammy, and could not catch my breath, I felt like a fish out of water literally. My So said my words were slurred I just remember not being able to get enough air to talk.Went to the ER and was diagnosed with a kidney stone.By the time I got to the ER everything was back to normal pretty much, but we could not figure why they said kidney stone, had no pain when going or blood. Went to my regular dr today and he agreed not kidney stone, but what??? We don't know. I'm being hooked up to a heart monitor tomorrow for 24 hours to see if there's something there, but other than that we are totally puzzled. I also take meds for high blood pressure, they could not find my pressure today and was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes which I am controlling with diet, My blood sugar level is usually high in the morning 140-160 this morning it was 66, I am just totally confused with all this and am anxiously awaiting results from the monitor, thanks for letting me "let it out".

1. Hey Madmom, I realize this may be a bit late - but did they ever find out
what happened? I hope you're alright now. Just curious as to what might cause such a drastic change in BP and glucose levels.

4. Hi, thanks for caring, sorry it took me awhile to get back, no we never
found out what caused this, all test came back "ok" I'm doing fine now. I am diabetic, just had my latest a1c and it's 6.9 which is better than it was. Trying to do this with diet alone,dr said something is working so keep doing what I'm doing. No meds yet!!!!

2. I went through something similiar last summer.

No one ever figured out what had gone wrong with me. I got myself back to normal by keeping to a more alkaline diet - avoiding sugar (If you are diabetic you probably do that already) Eating veggies and fruit more than my usual meat and potatoes dinner.

I had a good summer, then this Autumn, things went WHACK-O again. Someone told me to try peppermint tea - lots of it. I have always hated the taste but it has helped. And I force 16 oz a day into me.

One thing I have learned from past experiences while being in a situation where no one knows what is wrong with me is to turn to alternative medicine people. Ask around and try and find the most healing person you can to go to - in one area of the country it was a local chiropractor, and here in CA it has been Stephanie Lum who is an acupuncturist in San Rafael. I always say about acupuncture that if you don't care about the name of what is wrong with you, but want to get better, acupuncture is one of the best things to do. (If you want the name of your disease, but don't care about getting better, well for me, that has been Western Medicine.)

And it sounds like you might want to decrease your nightly insulin doseage - 66 is too low.

On edit: How ever, if you drink alcohol, well it can cause you to have blood sugar numbers all over the place. ANd in that case, you need to talk to a doctor. You can have high readings initially after imbibing, but then bottoming out later on in the wee hours or after waking up. If it is occurring because of alcohol (and this is one season where it can happen - people are having things with lots of vanilla in them and sometimes these specialty egg nogs, even though purportedly made with NutraSweet etc can have enouigh alcohol from vanilla to cause problems.)

6. please keep us updated ....
This is very odd ...

cold sweat got very clammy, and could not catch my breath
i've had similar symptoms when I was severely anemic -- my neighbor rushed me to the ER because i thought was have a pulmonary embolism (had been dx'd with a DVT just 2 weeks earlier).

I wonder if it could be a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack), otherwise known as a mini-stroke.
