Anyone here have any adverse reaction to Ibuprofen?
For years, I have been taking generic Advil for back pain(2 in AM). Somewhere along the way and possibly not related, I would get periodic rash on my back. Not a lot but itchy as heck. These small little splotches began to appear on my arms and my ankles. They were so itchy,I could not help but scratch them and the area bled like the dickens.

It has been getting worse lately. They last time I visited the doctor, I discussed the rash with him and he said I have abnormally dry skin, no more hot tubs, use Dove soap, take warm showers. Fine...still have itchy rash. I recently started to take an antidepressant and I don't think the continuing itchy rash has anything to do with that medicine. I had the rash long before.

A couple of days ago, I stopped taking the Ibuprofen after finding out(on line) that many people get this same type if reaction. There is actually a condition called Ibuprofen rash.

Obviously I stopped taking the pills and will see if the itch gets better. My skin is also flaky, particularly on my legs. No rash has ever appeared on my chest or inner arms, calves or feet.

This is the strangest thing and it is driving me crazy.

Anyone here know of a similar situation?

1. You might want to see a dermatologist
if it doesn't clear up. I can think of several things it could be but a dermatologist who actually sees you and your rash could distinguish among systemic reaction, contact dermatitis from soap or laundry detergent, and simple dry skin.

2. I can't take Ibuprofen. I'm allergic to it.
I get hives and odd looking rashy spots. My Dermatologist said the best soap is Ivory.

3. Good Morning OhioChick, glad to hear that I'm not completely
crazy. I'm on my 5th day without Ibuprofen and have had no new itchy spots appear and those spots that were bothering me are now fading. Only one little spot on my back is still itchy.

May I PM you with a couple of questions?

4. Worst case of contact dermatitis in my life was from Ivory
I looked like I had poison ivy.

Dr. Bronner's is my go-to soap when something else starts breaking me out.

6. Ivory is the only soap I can use...
I think the worst for me was when they came out with "Coast" years ago.
Whole body itchy rash....not fun. :(
