Every time I put in a contact lens, it hurts like hell.
I have read recently that N-acetylcysteine, an amino acid, may help dry eye, among other things. I started taking it two weeks ago for depression and it seems to be helping that slightly. Haven't seen any effect on my eyes so far, but they haven't been acting up lately.
The few things that have helped me are not wearing eye makeup, and gently cleaning the lids and lashes with a clean damp washcloth or paper towel. I use Cetaphil liquid hand soap or its generic equivalent, which is much cheaper, to wash off makeup on the rare occasions that I wear it. It's very gentle and doesn't sting if it gets in the eyes.
The only eye makeup I can tolerate is Maybelline black eye shadow that I brush on as eyeliner using a very thin brush. Some other brands of eye shadow irritate my eyes, as does eyeliner. I can also handle a bit of colored eye shadow on the lids.
Don't know if any of this would help you, but good luck!
