DMSO
Is anyone using DMSO for arthritis or for any other purpose? The FDA doesn't seem to like it, but I've heard it's widely used in Europe and Russia. I can'tuse NSAIDS because of kidney issues. All the docs seem to be pushing narcotics, and I prefer not to go there, but I would like some relief.

1. You can try it, but the best idea is to use real medication
depending on which variety of arthritis you have. People don't run into trouble on narcotics if they stick to the terms of the prescription and some newer drugs like Ultram can work miracles in people who can tolerate them. A weaker narcotic like hydrocodone twice a day can make a huge difference in functional ability and outlook on life and the risk of addiction is extremely small.

I tried DMSO back in the 70s. It gave me nice garlic breath but did nothing for my arthritis.

I'm also allergic to NSAIDs but there are alternatives out there. Your doctor is your best guide for finding a medication or combination of medications that will work for you.

2. I think that only works on muscle problems
Tendons, ligaments, things like that. It's usually for leg injuries in horses, afaik. Seems like my husband used it once, eons ago, on tennis elbow and it did pretty good for that. He's got arthritis now and it didn't do anything.

Arthritis is a tough one. Not a lot that helps, not even the narcotics really. He's not supposed to take nsaid's either, but they help the most. He will occasionally take them when he's just up to his ears from all the pain he is in.

Best of luck.

3. I use DMSO on my
sacroiliac joints when they get inflamed and swollen. It's works for me. I prefer the gel over the liquid.

I knew people in AZ who swore by it for arthritis but I don't know first hand.
