Yankees... destiny, or good furtune due to bad calls at Yankee Stadium?
From Joe Mauer's line drive that fell A FOOT inside of the left field line and was called foul, to tonight's call that the double play ball wasn't a double play ball, one has to ask: Who pays the umpires that call games at Yankee Stadium? The Yankees?

Or are umpires at Yankee Stadium afraid of the New York fans?

1. I was wondering the same thing myself.
It seems to me that there are always a lot of suspicious calls there. I'll admit however, that I may be a little subjective...but still!

2. The playoff officiating has been terrible.
I'm talking about the across the board officiating. The calls haven't always benefitted the Yankees. McClellan blew two major Yankees calls in Tuesday night's game and he admitted to it. Swisher did not leave third base early. McClellan wasn't watching Swish yet he called him out. Later in the game two players ended up on third base and they both should've been out. Cano was incorrectly called safe. Don't even get me started on the strike zone calls.

3. +100
Worst ball/strike calls I've EVER seen.

In the Dodger/Phillies game that Wolf pitched, the count was 3-0 when they showed the graphic and ALL THREE pitches were strikes.

I'd like to see that graphic on-screen for every game, all season.

4. They seem to cherry pick when they show the striek zone box.
By the way, I'm sorry that your team didn't make it. I was really looking forward to a Dodger vs Yankees match-up in the series.

At this point I'm not even sure the Yanks will be in it. I thought they had last night's game nailed. Meh.

5. MLB is making officiating crew change.
I don't know how the commissioners office determines which umps call playoff games but it's good to see that MLB is distressed by the blown calls.

7. frankly, is anyone impressed when a bully with cash spends up to 8:1 what others spend for players?
I'm not. The Yankees have missed the playoffs one time in fourteen years and, have won 5 World Series titles in that time.

It's not a Yankee hater thing. They have great players who got them to the playoffs all but one time since '96. I just find that every since they ballooned their lineup salary, compared to the 25 teams that cannot spend that kind of money, it's been like putting a squad of seniors against a squad of freshman - a majority of the time, the more skilled players are going to win to make the playoffs - they may not win the championship every time, because typically, they play series that are either 5 or 7 games in the playoffs - but they get there because of that money differential. The Phillies spent a whopping $111 million on players this year - but the Yanks outspent them by nearly $100 million.

It destroys the parity of the game and makes the playoffs boring - I thought I'd give baseball a try this post-season after about 4 years of ignoring it - it's still rather boring, so back to football I put my interest after this night. That sucks for me, because I used to love baseball - but, you can only watch the unfair way it's setup and put up with seeing the same faces in the playoffs -

Top 8 NYY Players 2009 Salary
1. Alex Rodriguez 33,000,000
2. Derek Jeter 21,600,000
3. Mark Teixeira 20,625,000

4. A.J. Burnett 16,500,000
5. CC Sabathia 15,285,714
6. Mariano Rivera 15,000,000
7. Jorge Posada 13,100,000
8 a. Johnny Damon 13,000,000
8 b. Hideki Matsui 13,000,000

The 3 highest paid Yankees combined make more than each of these teams entire lineups -

17. Cincinnati 73,558,500
18. Arizona 73,516,666
19. Texas 73,439,238
20. Toronto 72,563,200
21. Colorado 72,428,000
22. Tampa Bay 68,230,934
23. Minnesota 67,634,766
24. Cleveland 66,757,366
25. Washington 62,001,000
26. Baltimore 61,885,566
27. Oakland 56,089,250
28. San Diego 37,800,800
29. Florida 35,774,000
30. Pittsburgh 25,197,000

And seriously, since the Yankees make the playoffs repeatedly - one can only stomach seeing RUDY Giuliani's ugly mug behind the on deck circle so many times before you just turn it off.
