Rants of a guy whose team hasnt seen the playoffs since '97
Edited on Mon Mar-21-05 02:47 AM by JohnKleeb

Oh yeah and the title is, One division title in my fuckin life.
Is it really that hard? Sure it's only happened once in my life. Lemme continue, the Yankees have won more world series than the orioles have playoff appearances in my life. You think I am bitter? You bet, and as tempting as it is to blame Steinbrenner and his Yankees who I will not lie to you, I do despise them and wish them a cellar finish, but I will put the blame by and large on this man, Peter Angelos who you see above. Fans of the major dynasties like the red sox, yankees, braves, or who ever can be bitter when they lose in the playoffs but as I learned in the mid 90's, just making the playoffs is a joy, and when you stop making the playoffs, it hurts, it really hurts. So I can dream of things that never will or hope for a better tommorow. Baseball isn't life but its played such a huge role in mine. With that note, I say Let's go O's and lets maybe give the fucking Yankees and Red Sox reason to watch their asses. Thanks.
I apologize if I sound bitter but damnit I miss playoff glory, I miss actually playing the game, I miss it sigh.

1. You go Kleeb
My rant is against this guy:

AND this guy, Carl Pohlad:

I still hold a big resentment against Bud Selig and Carl Pohlad for conspiring to contract my favorite team: the Twins. Carl Pohlad is a BILLIONAIRE! And I do not believe for one minute that the Twins are a money losing proposition. If owning baseball teams was so rife with the risk of losing money, no one would want to own one.

At least you guys make the playoffs year after year. Sure you dont always win the series but do you make it. No, I am not sore about that anymore, I am more sore about year after year, Angelos doesnt give a damn. I for the record was a little upset when I posted that but damn man, have you ever really felt the pains of rooting for a team whose owner just doesn't care. Sure Angelos pretends to care by being a jerk about the nationals but does he really caer about making them a contender, no. I dont like Steinbrenner but I will give him this, he does care about the team and making it good.

5. Believe it or not, I know how you feel
I went to Yankee games from 1981 through 1995 without ever seeing a single playoff game and then in 1995 when the Yankees were in first place they cancelled the season.

7. Yeah well thanks
Dont bring up the Meier incident though, that really gets me upset. It was 1994 actually. Yep and from '84-96 had a similiar playoff drought.

6. Hmmmmmm. Nice Rant
..and nice picture of Peter.

Not!

Okay, I know how you feel. My Indians stunk up the American League from 1960 until the middle '90s. Year after year after year after year after year after...well, you get the picture. Then a miracle happened and they actually got pretty good. In 1996 they even won 99 games and we had visions of THE WORLD SERIES dancing in our naive little heads...until the (wild card) Orioles kicked our butts for the AL Championship. Oh.The.Pain!

I sympathize with you because you cannot compete in the AL East without building a damn good team...and even then you've got to have some luck and no major injuries to beat out the Red Sox and the Yankees for the Champion/Wild Card tandem. At least the Indians, with their tiny little $40M payroll, has a chance, albeit slim, to take the AL Central. The day pigs fly.

8. The funny thing was the next year you guys kicked our asses
after we had our best year since 1983. Yeah Ive seen the Major League movies and read David Letterman's jokes rom the 80's, the Indians were a joke. No we beat you guys in the ALDS, however in 1997, you guys beat us in the ACLS, what sucked most was all the games we lost were one run games, which in a way makes that even more painful than 1996, both were painful for me, I was so excited.

9. Ahem,..
..I was hoping you wouldn't bring up our payback in 1997. Yes, well, we're brothers in pain alright. I did get a chuckle when the O's signed Albert "Mr. Congeniality" Belle. I think that was my first hint that Mr. Angelos was missing a digit from his IQ.

10. You have no idea how excited I was about that
Then he turned out to be a flop. Miguel Tejada though has turned out to be a great guy and signing. Sad thing about Angelos is he started out so strong and you know politically he is a great guy, he helped out steelworkers I believe, but baseball wise and personally he is a jerk.

11. Well, at least their owners haven't sent them off to another city..
in the middle of the night, like they did with the Colts!

A million years ago, I went to college in Bawlmer and lived within walking distance of Memorial stadium. I saw several games, including ones pitched by Jim Palmer.

Does the old stadium still exist, or did they tear it down?

12. I feel your pain.
As a Torontonian who's originally from Kansas, I know all about baseball mediocrity. It's been 1993 since the Jays have seen the playoffs and 1985 since the Royals have been in the postseason. It could be worse.
