Poll question: Best MLB ballpark?

Which presently used ballpark is the best place to see a game and just generally have a good time? My choice is obvious: Wrigley Field. You can't beat the ballpark itself, the fans, the team, the neighborhood, the bars, everything about it is awesome. What's your pick?

but my favorite field of the past is the old Met Stadium - loved going to Twins games as a kid there....it totally rocked.

4. What's the name of the field where the Giants play?

I used to go to Candlestick Park when I was in college. It was always cold and windy. The new stadium is on the water, and is supposed to be absolutely gorgeous. It's got one of those commercial names of course. My sister goes there and has sent photos. It looks really cool.

On the other hand, is your inclusion of RFK in D.C. a joke? It must be.

I live in Seattle, so I voted for Safeco but I suspect the one the Giants play in is better, from the pictures I have seen.

6. I have been to four of the parks on your list

and while I love Fenway Park, Camden Yards is the best place to watch baseball. (try to sit in right field at fenway and have a giant pole block part of your view)

8. While I do love Wrigley, Safeco is by far the best place to see a game

Yankee Stadium, Wrigley Field and Fenway Park have the history, but I think all three stadiums are terrible in terms of comfort and view. Camden is great, but Seattle's Safeco is freaking incredible. The food is better than any stadium I have been to (and it is only the new Detroit venue that I have yet to visit). The sight lines are perfect, not a bad seat in the house. Plus the bars across the street and on the block are great. Of course opinions are like a-holes ...

I love how open and spacious and homely it is. You can see sky from every part of the stadium!

14. Tiger Stadium was marvelous!

I had the pleasure of attending a game there years ago when the Yankees were visiting (Reggie Jackson years). The Tigers won.

It was so much fun to be in a real baseball park. I was sitting in a field level seat beneath the balcony, and when the crowd started rhythmically stamping their feet I thought the tall girders holding up the upper deck would give way! But the old place had survived enthusiastic crowds since 1912, and it withstood another night of baseball in Motown.

15. The Giants park is great

They change the name every year but there isn't a bad seat in the joint and the views are spectacular.

They also have great beer selection and a breadbowl chowder to die for. :beer:

I've only been to two personally so my opinion is of definite bias. .. but my fav park is definitely Fenway park. When me and my best bro went up there a few years ago . . sitting down the first base line in that stadium was definitely the highlight of my vacation.

they don't have to field a winning team as long as they have Wrigley.

the company runs the Cubs like a business (although, considering their payroll, not very well).

They don't look at wins, they look at profit and ticket sales.

And many fans come to Wrigley for the sheer novelty of it. "Who cares if they're losers, its Wrigley Field, man!" Add that to a fan base so mired in failure that they can't even contemplate what a World Series appearance might look or feel like (as long as they can blame the goat, its not the team's fault), and you have a recipe for disaster.

Granted, I admire the resilience and loyalty of the fans. But with some, propping up a failing team is like some kind of twisted badge of honor.

Bottom line: As long as they keep selling out, you will not see any changes in Wrigleyville.

The owners know that they don't have to field a winning team.


Only thing I can't figure out, though, is the $94 million payroll, as compared to their record.

But then again, when you don't have to win to sell tickets...
