Shouldn't
Mark Redman. This is a joke. Not only does Redman suck, but I hear he's a jerk-off to his teammates, too. I agree with the one player from every team rule, but they could have found someone better from the Royals. David DeJesus maybe? Mark Gruidzelanek?
Mark Buehrle. Not doing so hot this season. Clearly, this was a loyalty pick with Ozzie. With pitchers such as Verlander and Liriano waiting to get in, Buehrle shouldn't be on this team.
Mark Loretta. Boston fans stuffing the ballot box. Aside from a high batting average, Loretta brings little else to the table.
Jose Lopez. Terrible plate discipline and no real stand out reason as to why he should make the team. Especially with Gruidzelanek at second for the Royals, which would eleminate the need to select Mark Redman.
Derreck Turnbow. When you can only control one pitch, you are usually pitching at AA ball or lower. Lucky for Turnbow he has a 99 mph fastball. Not only should he not be an All-Star, but he won't have his closer's job much longer unless he can start locating his slider for strikes.
Dan Uggla. A good two months does not an All-Star make. Everyone has a good two months once in a while. And it's not like Uggla is much of a prospect. I don't want to take away from what he is doing at the plate right now, but I'm not sure it is enough to make him an all-star.
Should
Justin Verlander. Nearly tied for the league lead in wins as a rookie (and third in the league in ERA), Verlander has been a staple in Detroit's rotation this entire year. All though Liriano has been utterly dominant (except against the Tigers), he wasn't even a starter until 1.5 months ago. Liriano barely has enough innings to qualify for the ERA title. Probably both Liriano and Verlander should make it, but if I had to chose one, I would pick Justin since he has been starting games for twice as long as Liriano. But then again, there are at least two AL starters that have no business being there above both these guys. Even now with Liriano named as Contreras' replacement, Redman and Buehrle are both taking a spot that should belong to Justin. And what all-star fan wouldn't want to see Justin bring 101 mph heat to the game?
Travis Hafner. Hafner not making it is a joke. This guy is arguably the best hitter in the league. It's a shame that the White Sox are sending both Konerko and Thome, yet Hafner gets snubbed. Another lame Ozzie move.
