Jim was born March 28, 1961 in Moorhead, MN the son of Waldo and Darlene (Erickson) Kjos. He was raised and attended Ulen-Hitterdal school. Jim was baptized, confirmed and remained a lifetime member of Salem Lutheran Church in Hitterdal. In 1979 he entered the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. After his discharge he returned to the Hitterdal community where he was employed by area farmers and American Chrystal and Waste Management. On December 31, 2004 he was united in marriage to LouAnn Schachtschneider in Ulen. They have made their home in Ulen since that time. Jim had been employed by Aggregate Industries as a truck driver for the past 5 years.
Jim was a very active member of the Ulen VFW where he was past commander. He had a passion for the outdoors and whenever possible, this is where you would find him. He loved deer hunting, fishing (in South Dakota), 4 wheeling and snowmobiling. Jim was well known for making deer sausage and then giving it to all of his friends. He took pride in his yard and always kept it well groomed and neatly decorated. He also treasured the time he spent with Skylar and loved his hobby farming.
Jim is survived by his wife, LouAnn, Ulen; one daughter, Heather (Mike) Bjorgan, Hitterdal; one son, Taylor Selseth, Moorhead, MN; his mother, Darlene Kjos, Hitterdal; four sisters, Shirley (Ron) Gwin, Mapleton, ND, Kristi (Vernon) Prestegord, Twin Valley, MN, Luann (Ole) Larson, Lake Park, MN, and Lynnette (Ross) Wagner, Brainerd, MN; three brothers, Todd (Arlene) Hitterdal, Wayne (Melanie) Ulen, and Mike (Jenny) Hawley, MN; and two grandchildren, Skylar and Airasen.
He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.
