books of comfort
i have been doing quite a bit of reading the past couple of months. it took me several months before i was able to sit down and concentrate on anything. and i had no interest in reading anything during that initial period.

my mom passed at the end of october. she was my house mate, my companion, my best friend, and my mom all in one. (and so much more)

two months later our beautiful dog passed.

two months later my daughter's darling pet mouse.

i wanted to share a couple books here.

one is called "the next place" -- an amazingly wonderful picture book by warren hanson. appropriate for children and adults.

"we don't die" by joel martin (written about the medium george anderson; "we are not forgotten: george anderson's messages of love," "george anderson's lessons from the light: extraordinary messages of comfort and hope from the other side," and "walking in the garden of souls")

i'm not a religious person (in the traditional sense of the word)
i'm more of a spiritualistic person.
these books have given me comfort during the worst time of my life. i just wanted to share them.

i thought maybe someone else might suggest/share/recommend books they have found to be comforting or helpful

1. Thanks for starting this thread
My sympathy on the loss of your Mom  and also the loss of your pets.

A friend of ours was killed in a plane crash here in Pgh. (US Air Flt 427) and his widow wrote this book:

http://www.widowedwithoutwarning.com/

It's a very personal story, of course, but I bought it for my Mom when my Dad passed in 2004. I think it's an inspirational book for anyone, not just widows.

i just spent a lot of time on amazon reading parts of it and plan to read the entire book (if i can't get it through the library i'll order it from amazon). i would have liked to have been able to continue reading the entire book tonight. thanks again.

3. thanks for telling me about this book
i read a lot of it on amazon and then bought it. i thought it was very good and although i did not lose a spouse i did lose a day-to-day companion and someone very special to me--i was able to relate to a lot of the little things she talked about (clothes in closet, no longer buying their favorite food, toothbrush, etc).
her story was compelling and i can't even imagine going through the nightmare she went through--
thank you for sending this suggestion my way. i'm glad i read it.
