My cat, Amos, died today.
We took him to the vet because he was acting sick. The vet took an X-ray and he was full of cancer. It's amazing how much grief you can feel over a little cat. We took him in when he was a stray about 10 years ago. He was everybody's buddy and the only cat who would sit in my husband's lap. I loved him so much. There was a little feral cat outside that he used to hang with; she (the feral) was always looking for him. She'll be lost, too. He was just one of those great, big-hearted cats who made everybody smile. I'm going to miss him so much. I can't believe he's gone.

1. I am so sorry, I've lost a few of my own, and I am physically
feeling your heartbreak right now. I'll think of you today and send healing thoughts.

2. Thank you, schmuls
I'm finding it so hard to control the tears. I have a doctor's appt. tomorrow and I'm afraid I'll start blubbering while I'm there. I wish there was a public ceremony for pets; it all seems so lonely.

3. I fully understand your profound loss!
I have lost two of my precious fur-babies in the last two years, and I know well that immense pain. (I have their stories in my journal)

Amos was a lucky kitty to have found you. He had ten years of comfort, care, and unconditional love. And he returned that love to you, too.

Take time to cry, and honor that love.:hug:

4. Amos was a little cat,
but a huge part of your family and life. There must be a huge void left with his passing. I am steeling myself for the same with my sickly Scottie, Duncan.

I'm so sorry for your loss. We're here for you in your grief.

5. The day after.
I hate waking up in the morning when I feel the loss, then remember why I feel the loss. Fresh grief. I was just thinking of something that happened at the vet's. One of the technicians, who was helping with the euthenasia, suddenly started crying. She looked at me and said "I'm sorry. I lost a pet yesterday." We were hugging and crying together. Only people who love animals can really relate to how it feels when a pet dies. I want to thank all you good people for your comfort. And thank you for not being afraid to cry over a lost pet.

7. I happened to come here because I was grieving
And your subject line startled me. I lost my buddy, also named "Amos", yesterday. He was a house cat but would wake me up most mornings, even as recently as a few weeks ago, lead me downstairs to the living room and jump up onto his kitty condo at the front window. I would then open the window so that he could lie on the sill and sniff the outdoors. Lately a calico would come into the front yard at these times and they would both recline and stare at each other, communicating somehow in silence.
I'm sorry if I stirred things up for you because your post is a few months old but I was so startled and felt the need to reach out to you a little. Peace to you and to our Amoses.
