One of my sister and BIL's best friends just retired from working 40 years at the same company on Friday last week.
Sunday morning, age 61, he died in his sleep.
I can't stop thinking of it!

1. Hmmm, good to not BE your job, I guess |

Sad, but it does seem to happen when some retire. Sad if one has one's whole identity and feelings of self worth tied up with what one does for a living. Live should be richer than that.
Hope your sister & BIL find strength to deal with the loss.
Lesson: live each day well. Nothing is worth more than this day.

2. This is sad and I hear it too often. |

A good friend died at 62 yo mere months after retiring from a high pressure position at a state university. My father died at 69 yo, just couple of years after working every day since age 14.
Sudden deaths do seem to keep repeating in your mind. The "why" of it is questioned over and over and never gets a clear, understandable or satisfactory answer.
I hope your sister and her husband can find some peace from their grief in time.
I want to thank havocmom for her gentle reminder above:
"Lesson: live each day well. Nothing is worth more than this day." I know I need to keep these in the front of my mind more often.
