when I lost my sister Nan. Since then I have been caring first for my mother who had heart problems, cancer, and was 87. She died in April of this year of a massive stroke, the only death we were not expecting. Her death hit my father very hard, actually it decimated the whole family.
At her funeral my Father told my sister and I that his legs were painfully swollen. He was diagnosed with a rare disease called Wegeners and lost his kidneys. We gave him at home dialysis for seven months until he fell during the night and did not know where he was. When he realized what had happened he decided to stop dialysis after consulting with his doctors. He explained that he was done because he knew he was only going to keep going down-hill and he didn't want to live that way.
He called in all of his grandchildren and explained his decision and Last week, on Friday, he stopped his dialysis and he died 8 days later. It was a dignified and peaceful death. I will always miss him, he was so brave.
Then today my husband got a call and his mother has died. I don't even have any feelings left.....
