North American Handmade Bike show.
Last weekend was a gathering in San Jose of some of the finest examples of bikes I've ever seen. I regret not having gone. But several people from the mtbr bike forum posted galleries. I have one of them here. It's just a thrill to see this kind of love and dedication. I honestly believe our society will change it's values to a more bicycle embracing stance. If anyone is interested, I'll post the links to the other galleries.

If you run this as a slideshow, which takes broadband, you can see a lot of the show. I could go on, but I think the pictures speak for themselves.

3. Skiing? What is that?
Edited on Fri Mar-09-07 04:42 PM by Gregorian
I used to ski every weekend. I think the last time I skied was 1974. It's hard to believe it was that long ago. It was nice until the crowds arrived. I dumped the sport when you couldn't just ske to the bottom and hop on the lift.

I haven't worked in so many years, there was no internet tubes when I last had a job. Must be nice to have a diversion at times.

Well, back to my new bike build. I just got an Ibis Mojo carbon fiber mountain bike frame. Google that if you want to see what a glutinous consumer I have become.

Edit- Hm, that should be gluttonous. Haha.

4. There is a nicely maintained cross country ski area 5 minutes from my house
They roll the snow, lay tracks, and tend the drainage in the off season. We took advantage of this late season snow and have skied for 6 days in row. It's a beautiful place in the hemlocks. I get euphoric thinking about it.

5. That's great!
Not what I was thinking. XC skiing.

We're both blessed. I'm discovering a state park in my backyard. I rode 24 miles today with close to 3000 elevation gain. All on mountain trails. Just gorgeous. There's a trail I have to discover that has a 16 foot diameter tree. Not a stump. It's different when it's still standing. I've seen a 29 foot diameter stump. Even that was awe inspiring.

I just moved to Mendocino, and thanks to a biking forum, I've already got some friends showing me the trails. Biking is the most important part of my life. Anyways... Happy skiing, while it lasts.

6. The bicycle labeled "Moyer Elise" is beautiful
Red frame, red hubs, chromed lugs! I don't think I have ever seen chromed lugs. Lugs give attractive lines to a bicycle to the point that I have seen a few frames where they painted the fillets to draw attention to them. Moyer Elise also looks snazzy on account of the white handlebar tape. The bright finish on the stem also works, tying in with the chromed lugs &all.

I have project bike in the basement. I replaced the straight bars and elastomer fork on my Trek 930 front suspension bike with Ritchey Biomax shallow drop handlebars and a Kona Project 2 rigid fork. Bar end shifters. First rides on the bike after I set up the brakes and shifters have been very satisfactory. Boffo fork. I am still dialing in the stem angle before I tape the handlebars.
