North-side of Pittsburgh Bike Path
Edited on Sat Apr-28-07 02:29 AM by happyslug
From upriver of Millvale the trail goes to West End Bridge.

This is where the trail starts (It will continue up river, but it is undeveloped at present). These are picture looking upriver from the end of the Trail:

As you head for Downtown Pittsburgh you come to some of the old Railroad overpasses when this was an even busier line then it is now (and before PA 28, to the picture left, was put in by the state.

Then the developed part of the trail starts, notice the gravel instead of just mud.

You pass a small tourist paddle wheeler:

Then you enter Millvale Borough's part of the trail (This is looking UP the Allegheny at the George Washington Crossing Bridge):

You then pass the head of Herr's island, the main Channel is on the left of Herr's Island, but to the right of Herr's island, facing down river, is the much smaller back channel:

You then pass the Rowing club:

You then enter the City of Pittsburgh Part of the Trail (There is a short part of the trail without gravel, but all that is needed is some gravel installed, no big reconstruction):

Pass underneath the 31st Street Bridge (Again this is a Picture looking UP River):

The trail in Pittsburgh heading Downtown:

Looking across the Allegheny River at the Panhandle Bridge for the Mainline of the Old Pennsylvania Railroad (Now Norfolk and Southern) and Pittsburgh Convention Center:

Parking along the trail:

Birds along the trail:

You then pass the triple Bridges across the Allegheny:

Sculpture along the Path:

PNC Park:

You can continue to you are opposite the point:

The old Railroad bridge, now a Bike/Pedestrian path to Herr's Island:

Looking at the back channel:

Once you get onto Herr's Island, it has a Japanese Touch:

Looking Downstream from the Island:

The Path on the Island:

As the path ends halfway through the island you come to a restaurant:

Roads in the Development:

Exit road off the Island. This heads to River Road, which then goes to the 31st Street Bridge (Presently under Construction):

Looking up from River Road to the above Intersection and the 31st Street Bride, Herr's Island is on the right.

Looking at the Bike Trail under the 31st Street Bridge:

The Path as it goes by the Back channel of the Allegheny River, note, no pavement here:

Approaching the one old Railroad Bridge from Herr's Island (This bridge is NOT to be used as part of the Bike Trail):

Picture of the Railroad Bridge that will be part of the Trail in the Future, Looking to Herr's Island:

Once past that bridge, you enter Millvale's Part of the Trail (Notice the gravel not mud on the Trail):
