Old, heavy wheels with newer, lighter ones..
I took this pic of my bikeE recumbent on the side of our local bike trail, the Silver Comet, so named for the railroad track it used to be that went from Atlanta to Birmingham AL..

At fifty nine I'm just getting back into biking again in order to get more fit and lower my blood pressure, for the last two months or so I have been doing thirty minute rides three or four times a week in a large grocery store parking lot down the street from me starting at 5:45 am before any cars show up. On weekends I go to the bike trail sometimes.. We don't have any well lit roads around here and I have to ride early both due to temperature concerns and because I have duties that start a bit later in the day.

So far I have gotten up to 13.2 mph average for thirty minutes, I tried a longer ride today and went 11 miles on the trail but after about forty minutes I got too tired and my average speed dropped to 12.1 mph and I took 54 minutes to do that distance.

Since this pic was taken I have added a water bottle and cage which bolts to the lugs on the steering stem right in front of the bars, a cheapo digital speedometer and a collapsible cooler/fishing seat I have attached behind my saddle with mini bungee cords for storage of other items..

1. Good for you!
Though I would stay out of the Tour de France till you get your speeds up...lol.
I leave tomorrow for a 300 mile tour down the Coast to California.
My training was my 50 lb. Daughter in the trailer behind my 20 year old Cannondale.
Its a great way to stay fit and spend very little on a trip-which is good, I have no money.
You plan on longer rides?
My trips are usually 40 mile days, nothing really compared to the Europeans that come over and do 100 mile plus days
loaded down with not much more than a tire kit...
