looks like they cost around $2500 ... a neat idea for the right audience but they really need to get the price down ...

A OCLV Trek Madone 5.9 will nick you around 5 kilobucks.

An Alex Singer Randonneur, IF you can get Messr. Csuka to build you one, is over $3,000, as is a Rivendell, Heron, Bob Johnson, Toei, etc...

There's a niche market for it. I don't think it was ever intended to be an "Everyman's Bike".

I would LOVE to get my hands on the electric hub from one of those "cruiser" toys The Sharper Image sells...Bet I could come up with something very practical.

7. The Swiss Army bicycle of 1995 cost over $3500

And a lot better than this electric bike. The Swiss abolished their bicycle regiment in 2003 do to the end of the Cold War. The Swiss always plan operations to defend themselves from their neighbors, with the end of the Cold war AND European unification, made an invasion of Switzerland unlikely. Thus the Swiss changed their military structure in 2003 emphasizing co-operation with other European Countries and down playing defenses. The Swiss Bicycle Regiment was intended as a "Filler" unit i.e. if something collapsed on the Front the Swiss Bicycle Unit was to ride to that point and fill in the gap. IT could do this faster than any other ground based system given the mountains of Switzerland. With defense deemphasized the bicycle regiment was looked upon as something that could NOT be used in a peacekeeping role with the UN so was disbanded.
