Good article on Velonews
This was forwarded to me by the brother-in-law of a teammate of Scott Kornfield, who was killed riding his bike in Colorado. Not trying to scare off any newbies, but there's a good message in this article. That being, WEAR YOUR FRICKIN' HELMET! It wouldn't have saved this poor guy, but it could save other people:

1. Man, that's really a downer!
I have to remind myself that pedestrians and motorists are also at risk. But I never ride without a helmet and I dress for high visibility. And being a newbie, I'm always on alert -- I just need to make sure I don't let my guard down as I get more experienced.

I was just on Highway 36 about two weeks before this accident -- not on a bike but in a car. I was amazed at all the cyclists, though.
