What a NICE evening for a ride!
Temp about 75, sunny, and NO WIND.

Did 17 miles in an hour and 15. But I gotta change the route, because there's a 3 mile stretch that I'm gonna name "The Ho Chi Min Trail" because it's crumbling.

I really LOVE to ride that big red bicycle of mine!

1. You go!
I hope for weather as nice next week as I ride on the KATY.

2. I wish I could ride in cool weather like that!
It's still in the upper 80s when I head home in the evenings and humid as hell. Or is hell a dry heat?

Anyway, you should see my ride now! I had a bike fit today, got the handlebars and saddle adjusted. The saddle was WAY too low! Wait till I take on the hills now!

I left my bike at the shop for its first free tune-up and they're putting on fenders and bar extensions. My commuter is getting better all the time! I'll post pics when I get it back.

3. Oh, you'll LOVE that higher saddle!
You'll think you became Lance overnight.

And you'll get to ride in cooler weather...Just about the time I'm bitching about 6" of snow on the ground! :D

4. That's true.
I just got through ordering rain pants and a jacket at the REI close-out store, plus full gloves and four long-sleeve jerseys. I'm already thinking ahead to bad weather! :D

Just when I thought I had bought all that I could buy! ;)

5. Oh, my, the saddle is so high, I can't sit on it and touch the ground
with my feet! It was high at the bike shop but I was on the trainer so that added a couple of inches and I didn't have to balance the bike while getting off. Getting on and off my bike is going to take some getting used to!

However, you were right, once I was on and riding (just around my driveway,) it felt really good and I was all powerful! :) Mr. Longhorn and I are doing a ride tomorrow so I'll get a chance to try it out before my commute week begins.

6. Being able to put you feet down while sitting is over-rated.

Apologies to Benno Benzinger and his Electra "Townie" series, but I think if you can touch the ground while seated then it's too low. It bothers me to see people with seats so low that they never get their knees past 90 degrees extension.

I have to get out of the saddle when I stop in order to put a foot down. At first I thought that really sucked, but now after 2 years of being at the right height, I'm used to it.

Anyway, we like to spend most our time pedalling and not sitting at stops anyway, right?

One caution. Since they put your seat up into the stratosphere in one shot, as opposed to putting it up a 1/2 inch at a time, you might have some soreness, but it will probabaly be more than offset by not getting tired as fast as you used to. It passes soon enough.

Have fun today!
