Went pretty well today, beautiful day for it by the way. In Minnesota we get maybe 15 days per year like this. Soft wind, mid 80's, no bugs....

I did 17 miles before dark last night. I guess it was a good ride, not sure. Carrying around too much bullshit from the day with me.

Did see a deer again! That's 2 this week!

Gonna try for 25 before dark tonight.

3. Where are you riding?

I ride St Paul and Minneapolis almost every day.

Do you have a circuit you are riding laps around, or are you doing the streets, or some of the longer trails?

4. I'm out of White Bear Lake.

I ride up hwy 61 to county 14, then east to Manning, then square lake trail to county 19 (i think) which brings me to Pine Point Park, the northern tip of the gateway trail. Then i ride that back to white bear lake.

but I did ride the Gateway north from Hinkley for bout 30 miles (60 round trip) toward Duluth two summers ago.
It was pretty boring. Flat and straight as an arrow. It was a HOT August day, headwinds BOTH ways (funny how often that happens....the wind changing 180 JUST after I turn around).

That section would be GREAT for someone working on pure speed. Put you head down, Hi-Gear, and just crank it out not having to worry too much about turns or car crossings.

Where does The Gateway begin again after Pine Point?
Isn't that the last section they need to pave to complete the whole run to Duluth?

I'm not ready for the full 75 miles in one day, but I do want to put the bikes on the roof and drive to Duluth and ride South for about 30 miles out and back. I've seen pictures from the Duluth end, and it looks beautiful.

I also highly recommend the Chippewa Trail over in EauClair.

9. thanks mang, I might give the Eau Claire path a try.

Construction for the rest of the gateway trail should begin after timmy the tool finds some money for construction after he finds some money to continue the road repair, like the edgerton bridge over 694. After about a month of doing nothing, someone finally found some money to complete he project.

I dont know where paved bike paths are on the list of things to do.

I did get a chance to ride the Lanesboro path about 10 years ago. It was the most beautiful path I have ever ridden, complete with wildlife and scenic little towns along the way. Its a drive to get there and the path is about 60 miles there and back. I would recommend it to anyone.

You are right about the hugo path being straight and flat. It is excellent for putting on the miles. The last time I rode it was with the wind going up, against coming home. I have resigned myself to riding into the wind. :)
