46 miles today, bonked at 37 and broke another spoke.

1. You and spokes don't get along, do they?

How'd you manage another 9 miles after you bonked? I almost bonked last night, but a shot of Orange Snot got me going again...
That shit's nasty in the mouth, but magic once it gets going...

2. brought wheel to two different shops.

One used wheelsmith spokes the other used DT. I prefer the wheelsmith but now I'm going to have to go buy all new spokes and fix the thing myself. I have a spoke tensiometer that I got for fathers day so I'll see if that thing works.

As far as getting home after bonking? No other way to get home mang.... :)

3. Some other thoughts....

Look at the holes in the hub flange. Sometimes the bend of the spoke is longer than the thickness of the flange,requiring little washers, or the spokes are backwards and the bevel in the flange hole isn't helping the spoke make a smooth tranisition around the "corner".

Wheelsmith and DT are excelent brands, so we can discount that, I think. Wonder if Sheldon Brown has any ideas?

BTW, I weigh 286 pounds. I can't imagine anything being rougher on spokes that that...

I always carry glucose tabs with me, just in case...

4. I'm right there with you at 260. its always an inside spoke rear wheel.

Im tired of spending $17 every month to fix it.

5. That's a lot of money for spokes!

I bought a freewheel remover for about $9, a big honkin' wrench for another 12, and the spokes cost me about 75 cents each at my LBS.
The spoke wrench, I already had.

Fate... do you know how I measure the spokes I need. I feel better about using wheelsmith. I'm thinking about getting a mavic rim too. what do you think?

7. Mavics are good rims.

In fact, the out-of-product MA-3 is fetching incredible prices on Ebay.

What I do to measure the spokes is take the busted one to my bike shop and let the mechanic size it up. Then I buy several to have on hand just for next time
