I've got bugs in my teeth!
Well, I would if there had been any bugs because I was grinning the entire time! I just got back from the Veloway and it was so much fun! It's 3.1 miles of a dedicated bike trail (no walkers or joggers or cars or mopeds.) There are some easy climbs and descents and one steep hill that I can't do yet but it represents a challenge to overcome. And it's not a very long hill so it's not a very long walk. ;)

I did two laps with a five minute rest in between. It took me about 20 minutes to do each lap so that's about 9.3 mph. And my odometer came today so next ride, I can start tracking more stats.

I had so much fun, I went to the bike shop immediately afterward and bought a trunk rack so I don't have to deal with stashing this bike in the backseat of my small car. Now I just need to figure out how to keep it from being stolen while I'm at work. My husband thinks he can rig something to lock the bike and rack to the car. The guy at the bike store said Austin ranks sixth bikes getting stolen. :( I work at a community college and we do have security but I've heard of bikes being stolen in broad daylight so I'm a little worried. If I could find someplace in the building to stash my bike, I could bring it inside. I'm just an adjunct so I don't have my own office.

Anyway, thanks again for your help and encouragement. I think I could get addicted to this! :D

1. That's the spirit!
Have fun!

:applause:

Good info. on the veloway. I've wanted to try that myself, but haven't been able to yet. Hopefully we'll get a chance to before long.

Keep on crankin'. Sounds like you've got the bug!

2. Good for you!
3 miles in 20 for a beginner is pretty good!

3. I made it up the hill!
All three times that I lapped the course, in fact! I planned ahead and put the front and back in the easiest gears and I had to stand up for some of the climb but that's okay! More grinning, more potential for bugs!

I could have ridden longer but a storm came up -- I was lucky to get my bike back on the rack and myself into the car before the deluge began. But I think 9.3 miles for my second visit to the Veloway is pretty darn good!

Notice how I can't stop grinning?
