Buddha's true suffering: Growing out a short hair cut.
Back in July, I had hair down to my butt. But... it wasn't in the best of shape. Dry, kinda crispy. It seemed thin for as long as it was, and honestly, I was tired of cleaning it out of everything. So I cut it all off. I sent more than 16 inches to locks of love, and more ended up on the floor as the stylist turned it into a very short boyish cut.

It was cute for a few days, but I let it grow out to a Louise Brooks length, (like this: )

and I've tried to keep it sort of there ever since. It's a lot thicker and healthier now, but it has a rather obnoxious desire to curl that the weight of it long tamed. Now I'm thinking I want to let it grow out to either an actual shingle (though those are cold for winter) or a longer, asymmetrical bob.

Any tips on the... hell stage?

2. ah, just made it through that "dumb" stage of growing out the hair.
I had a really short "crazy" kind of cut. Now its past my shoulders, all of it. I used to have hair down past my butt too, had to move it out of the way to use the toilet.

I didn't use any hats, just kept it tucked behind my ears and let it do it's thing, I have done this so many times and I hate it sooo much, that you'd think I'd just leave it long/short.

3. Oh I know very well how you feel!! Too well!
I had long curly hair all my life. EIGHT years ago I cut it all off to nearly a crew cut. I have been fighting with it ever since. I'd grow it, cut it, grow it, cut it, all the while hating it and just wanting it long enough to tie up but unable to get through the awkward stages. I liked it short, and hated the in between but I missed my length.

It's finally down to my shoulders when dry, (if you have curls you know that they shrink like crazy so that 8 inches becomes 4 inches!), and I can tie most of it up into a ponytail. I actually just called today to schedule for a cut; against the opinion of all I'm thinking maybe Bangs. God help me! :spank:

Anyway. I definitely hear you. I used clips and pins until it was long enough to tie back. My hair dries out if I use heat so I have to leave it curly. It has taken me 8 long years to get this far and I still fight the urge to cut, though it is much easier now.

Just remember: It is only hair. Let it grow if you want it long. Just go through the less than beautiful stages with as much self esteem as you can muster and let it grow. It won't take long as long as you keep out of the salon!

Your mantra: I am more than my hair.
Repeat as often as is necessary.

:hi:
