I just smoked my last cigarette
Edited on Fri Jul-15-05 11:50 AM by Taverner
I had to smoke one last one, then crumple up my pack. I made a point to ripping apart the used butt, to reinforce how disgusting smoking is. It made me gag a little - but I had to do it.

Now I feel like shit - this is good. I should feel like shit around the smell of nicotine smoke.

Any other ideas?

1. How are you doing?
I had stopped and just took a trip to Italy and I smoked there, a lot. Now I'm at day 4 without.

I hope you're doing well.

4. How are you doing?
After backsliding in the middle of last week (out for drinks with generous smokers) I'm having a good week. I hope you're doing well. If you're having a hard time, hang in there. If you fell, don't give up hope that you can do it. Your message encouraged me to stick to it so I thought I'd try to return the favor.

3. If you have a hard time quitting cold turkey
ask your doctor for Wellbutrin. It's the wonder drug as far as I'm concerned. It contains no nicotine yet it controls your cravings to the point that you feel that they are manageable. I've quit for 18 days and I'm not going back.

6. it works.
10 weeks. No backslide at all. I think I did it.

Only after all this time am I comfortable saying I think I did it.

Don't give up. This is doable.

I'm about to buy myself a new ipod with the $350 I saved from quitting my $5 a day habit. I can't believe I saved myself that much $ in 10 weeks just by stopping behavior that was killing me.

Don't give up! This is doable!

8. I've heard this too--I wanted to talk to my Dr. about it for depression
and when I looked it up on the net, I saw that it is sometimes prescribed for smoking cessation.

I guess it makes sense--we tend to smoke when we are stressed out and upset more than when we are happy and well-adjusted, so if you are less "sad" (for lack of a better word at 2:30 in the morning lol), you should smoke less.

5. I lasted two days and went back but I am going to try harder this time.
A friend reminded me the more times I quit the closer to success I get.

7. I did this a few months ago--it was my 2nd attempt.
The first time I quit because I was pregnant with my daughter. I was lucky and the smell of cig smoke made me want to throw up throughout the entire pregnancy.

I kept it up for a few weeks after she was born, but my hubby is a smoker and I caved.

Then a few months ago I decided it was disgusting and unhealthy (not to mention expensive) and i flushed half a pack down the toilet. It lasted a few days--I was actually really proud of myself.

Now, I've set a goal--my hubby has to quit when he comes back from Iraq (for his job) so we are going to do it together, and our best-friend-couple is going to do it with us.

This gives me time to get used to the idea of quitting, and I am a stickler for goal-setting and accomplishing, so here's hoping.

Congrats to you--stay strong.
