Parent's debt: legal question
I have a legal question for anyone who may know. Thanks in advance

My mother in law is purchasing a condo that she can in no way afford (we think she's using connections and deceipt to get mortgage approval). My mom said she thinks that some debt can be passed down to the survivors. Are we going to get saddled with this woman's debt? Thanks again.

2. Her survivors won't be responsible for her debts . . .
but if you are looking for an inheritance from her, the debts could reduce what you will receive.

And, again - don't co-sign anything with her.

3. Boy, I had to laugh at that
no, we don't expect an inheritance from her. She did use my husband's social security number years ago (without his knowledge, let alone consent) to start a business (some short lived financial adviser thing). I don't think he should run into problems with that...I hope....

4. I only mentioned an inheritance . .
because you had said something about survivors in your OP . . . I got the impression there wouldn't be anything to inherit :)
