Notice the huge circular ring shaping up between North America and Africa? When the 'engine' kicks in and starts creating regular depressions just off the coast of Africa, this circular motion is going to act like a energizing conveyor belt. That's my call, at least. :-)

Any thoughts?

It'll be interesting if we get anything here in Maryland. When TS Isabelle hit a few years ago people were freaking out. I thought it was kinda fun though.

3. I have an impression that thunderstorms in Africa are the genesis..

...of tropical storms and hurricanes. Big thunderstorms form over hot African countryside. The heat of the land is the engine of convection. These storms follow the prevailing West to East winds in those latitudes. Thus they are moved into the Atlantic Ocean where they continue "convecting" with the hot tropical ocean as the source of heat--and moisture.

I don't even know if typhoons or hurricanes can begin at sea. I think a hot landmass must be involved. If you know better, please enlighten me.
