I rode out Katrina in Biloxi
It certainly enlightened me and cured my first-hand hurricane curiosity.

Nope, don't want to do it again...

1. That must have been nuts!
I would have been terrified. I've always thought I'd like to ride out a smaller hurricane like a cat2 or maybe 3, but I don't know anymore. What was it like?

She lives on Howard, their house survived, but they lost everything on the first floor. I hope you all learned your lesson!!

5. Glad you are safe and sound
I should have said that in my first post. Like you, I have developed a new appreciation for hurricanes. We've dodged way too many bullets in the past year or so.

just some fun weather... I am not aware of any deaths related to that storm on hk island... it was a very weak typhoon... was downgraded immediately after landfall to a severe tropical storm.

nothing at all like katrina... are you all gonna be okay?

11. Must've been one hell of a ride.
I went through Katrina when she was just a baby and even then she really packed a punch. Glad to hear you made it out alright.

14. How lucky am I?
This is where I rode out Katrina. The body of water in the pic on the left is the Back Bay. The big building by the freeway in the upper left corner is the Imperial Palace Casino. The white circle is where I was when the storm came ashore. The area in the red circle were houses and buildings that were underwater, gutted or destroyed.

15. wow... is life going on there at all?
I just read that not only is there no power in NOLA, but they have no plans to return it... what's up in Biloxi? The public (including, regrettably, myself,) tends to forget about the aftereffects of hurricanes...

16. My kids are doing alright
My daughter is trying to find an apartment, but is having no luck. They disappear as soon as one opens up.

18. Last I heard there were jobs in restaurants and stuff
Because everyone left and now they don't have enough people to staff the businesses that could open. This was about a month ago when I heard this.

I believe most schools started back up. My daughter had just started nursing school at the Southern Miss Long Beach campus. The campus was very damaged because it was just off the beach. They started classes back up in another building on a different location.

The main problem seems to be places to live.

20. Nope, I'm good, thanks
Fema came through for me.

Thanks for asking. It was kind of a monumental thing and its kind of hard to get past it.

I think maybe it's something I will write about in the future.
