Guys, I am SO PSYCHED!

I'm in Wisconsin, and finally settled in enough to jump back in to book matters. I finally get to head to Madison this weekend! I have a pet sitter lined up for walking Fargs and everything!

This is what I dreamed of in Texas-- being able to go to the archives ANYTIME I WANT to do research!

Now, if I can just get the lock/locksmith situation solved at the new place before Saturday, I'll be all SET! I wanna get as much found before winter so I'll have lots to keep me busy during those deep snowfalls so I don't go stir crazy.

I also need to get to Eastlawn Cemetery in Beloit and take a bazillion gravestone pix before then too.

2. Not bored...

just missing the hunny. I was completely misconstrued! :D

It has taken me a little while to get settled in and semi-comfortable. But I still miss "my desk" (read: my couch & coffee table).

I have the comfiest couch known to mankind-- a 1930s Deco find I got in an antique store and had recovered. Between it and my coffee table, I rarely used to move. I DO have a bed here in the new place, but my living room only has an air mattress for watching TV right now. It's been hard to get back into the research thing just yet.

But hopefully, this weekend will yield a major breakthrough in the case of my Mary Elizabeth who died sometime between November of 1893 and May of 1895, probably in Milwaukee. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. But I have plenty of other stuff to look for too!

I need to spend a month in Erie Pennsylvania sometime to do the same thing you are doing. Ah, maybe sometime in the future when I retire.

4. The trip went GREAT!

Knocked down TWO brick walls in one afternoon! Minor little finds helped me get to these, so it was COMPLETELY worth the trip. Even though 94 was under construction and it took me a bit longer to get there than I would have liked!

I got to go to Kabul and have mashawa soup, and went to Shakhti on State Street and got some good bumper stickers for the Element too. It was a good day!

5. Hey, let me know when you're going again

I'd love to meet you if the day works out for me. I'm heading there this Saturday with my genealogy buddy. But I've been known to go alone anytime the mood strikes. I don't even have a real job a the moment so just about any day works for me.

The only disappointment for me in going to the library in Madison is no more walking to Paisans afterwards. They moved over by Monona Terrace. Now I either have to find a new place to crash after the library closes or drive downtown.

6. I'd LIKE to go this weekend,

but not sure if my petsitters would be available. And I just went LAST weekend. Don't want hubby to get mad.

I'll probably end up at the Milwaukee library since they have an index and list of Milwaukee deaths, and I think I have a few. Plus there are a few question marks I'm trying to aolve, and this might help me do it.

I'll try to give you a holler (if you can handle Kabul for dinner). I need my fix of mashawa!

On edit, I've gotta go to all sorts of places before winter hits. How far are you from Lodi? I need to meet a cousin's widow there. Might be closer to you? Plus, I'll be hitting Beloit, Clinton and Rockford too. They're not that far away from Madison.

7. Sorry I missed your post

I spent Thursday getting ready for a meeting and Friday getting ready for the library.

I'm 2.75 hours north of Madison. Lodi is not much closer.

I figured Madison is our common denominator and I'd love to try Kabul for dinner.

The good news is I had a very productive time at the library. I found a couple of hints on two of my husband's female ancestors in census records and a passenger list for one of mine. Life is good.

9. I only have a teeny tiny line to find in Milwaukee.

Everyplace else, but not in Milwaukee. Only moved here because the job sitch is better.

I have to go to the county, because the death cert index that's been microfilmed at the library just happens to be missing the two pages I need.

I don't know if it was just never microfilmed, or if those records no longer exist. Figures.

I envy you, both for your discoveries and that you've found such an incredible place to do research. I'm not so fortunate, since both my Irish and Polish ancestors "came over on the last boat," as my mother says. *sigh*:-(
