WOOHOO! I got my DNA volunteer!!!!
:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Lately, I've been wanting to do this:
http://www.smithconnections.com/index.cgi

But even in our ginormous multitudinous family of several THOUSANDS of people, we only had a select few guys who would be good candidates for this (sons of sons of sons).

I finally bit the bullet last night and called a 3rd cousin up in Washington State, whom I met 2 Novembers ago when I was up there, and he's up for it. Yay! Now we gotta do a 37 allele matchup.

I wanted to do this before I consider going to Pennsylvania to look any further back, because it might give me more clues what to look for. (Other than staid old dead German folks, I mean. That's a no brainer)

Anybody got $189 I can borrow? I've put a request out on our Smith family Yahoo group to start asking for donations. Let's hope I get lucky! I'm SOOOOO psyched!

1. We found a great uncle who lived in Canada to do our 37 marker
match up. FamilyTree had to send to DNA kits the first got held up in customs for 6 weeks. After the sent the second the first arrived. Our great Uncle took the test and has sent it back express mail..

Our group can not wait to get the results. As I mentioned. Our ancestor came to this country and was listed as an orphan. He took the surname we use. No record of that name was ever found in any European or other country. Now we can find the surnames we match up to. Sometimes we really want to know but since 1737 it has been a mystery and sometimes you don't want it to be solved.

We put the request on our Surname genealogy list and got over half the money contributed from our group. Showing how unique the name is there are only 19 members as compared to over 500 on some of the list.

2. Wow. That WOULD be exciting.
Not even knowing the surname, and then being able to peg it a little more closely. Good luck with that! Fortunately, we don't have to deal with customs!
