I need to get my dad's birth certificate on microfilm from Ontario

This seems really really complicated. He was born in 1909 in Ontario. Records from that year are in the Ontario archives on microfilm and apparently the only way to get it is to ask my local library to borrow the microfilm.

This seems really cumbersome and I'm so surprised that in this information age it isn't more easily obtained.

The reason I need it? Canada's new citizenship law took effect in April 2009. Any child born outside of Canada to a Canadian citizen is now a Canadian citizen and only needs to provide father's birth certificate to claim the citizenship. The potential benefits of dual citizenship are in the balance here.

So has anyone done this? Gotten microfilm sent to a local library? Or is there an easier way?
