It's a small world, after all
Two examples I've recently found:

On Find a Grave I found lots of pictures of headstones for ancestors and relatives named Brooks (my maternal grandmother's line) from Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Bullock County, Alabama. Turns out the lady who took all the pictures and posted them is the daughter of my grandmother's sister, my first cousin once removed.

Second example, although I'm still fleshing this out: My paternal grandmother was a Stone from the Andalusia, Alabama area. I just found out that my mother's second (current) husband's first wife was raised by Stones in the Andalusia area. Weird, eh?

1. I've met several people on Find-a-Grave who are distant relatives.
Kind of neat. Also met quite a more on the Genealogy forums, most were second cousins of my dad (not sure what that makes them to me!).
