Obit mentions some of my fathers WWII military service record...
Edited on Mon Apr-18-11 04:09 PM by Little Star
On Saturday I went down to the Connecticut State Library in Hartford, CT. Searched through the microfilm and found his Obit.
I hope I can paste the link in here right and you can read it. If you can, could you tell me what any of it means?

I also filled out as much as I could of the forms that The National Military Personnel Records Center had sent to me and attached his obit and dated wedding picture. I am hoping they can piece his record together for me. Says it will be a minimum of 60 days to get a response from them.

So here is the link to his obit:
?t=1303159462

fingers crossed!

edited: to say if you click on the picture it will enlarge and be easier to read.

1. the records center is great
they dug and found a roster of the night my Dad was captured in '44. They will really do their best for you. That is an awesome obituary, wow. I think you will discover a fascinating story of your father.
Good luck to you.

2. ty riverwalker. I never really knew him, as you probably already
know if you read my first post asking for help with this. Had not even seen him since I was a wee tot until I finally found him dying in the VA hospital. He was way to sick to talk much by that time. I was still just a young air head anyway so never asked his second wife any questions either.

Now, while doing my family genealogy, I realize I know nothing about his service. And to make matters worse, I do not understand anything about Purple Hearts, Clusters or Ribbons. If I am honest, I know little, to nothing, about WWII at all.

I think I have some studying to do in my old age cause I'm sure curious now!

Thanks for your kind words. LS
