Sent an estimate to the publishing company today!
I'm so excited I can't stand it!

Yeah...it's still WAY early. But I couldn't wait anymore. I totally highballed the figure on the page count, but I figure it could go way higher with all the people I still have to find! The lady at the publishing company was blown away when I told her the size of this monstrosity. (The fact that it's three volumes screams at a pretty loud volume already).

And because of the TONS of pictures, it will be higher. I'm estimating about $60 a book, but it'd be nice if it could be a little lower for all the cousins that want copies.

I've written this in Framemaker. they say they take Pagemaker, InDesign, and Illustrator. I need to see if they can process my files.

1. That is WONDERFUL! No wonder you are excited.
Just imagine what it will be like when all of your hard work is sitting between the pages of volumes of books! Your descendants will be blessing you for eons to come, you know that, don't you?

I'll have to save up some money and get copies for our local library. They have a special 'room' (building) where they store all of the genealogical materials. When you consider that my city has some of your relatives lying in peace in the local cemetery, your books will be a perfect fit here. So when they are finally published, let me know!

And congrats on getting this far. The rest of us will be drooling with jealousy! LOL. :) :) :)

I have had so much FUN doing all this. What really makes me sad is that the lady who wrote the newspaper article in the Beloit paper in 1937 that got me started on this whole quest is very poorly represented.

Her great granddaughter is very noncommittal about the whole thing. She sent me a little bit of information, but I have no pictures! New pictures are my favorite. After researching these folks for so long, I love finally seeing what one of them looks like.

I'll have my scrapbooks with me too. You can take a look at a few of the layouts if you want. I love seeing people go from only mildly interested to "WOW! HERE! Take all my information!" just from seeing them.

If you want to buy a copy, that would be really cool! I'd love to be able to place one in all the cluster cities where the family lived, but price is definitely going to be a deciding factor.

I think when I send out the information when I'm ready to publish, I'll find out if anyone wants to contribute an extra $5 here and there for sending to all the places. There are so many! The major ones are: Salt Lake City, the Calgary library, the Beloit library, the Clinton Wisconsin library, the State Historical Society in Madison, the Everett Washington library, the Vancouver library, the Pittsburgh library, one of the local libraries/archives in Western Maryland (probably Frostburg State University). There are so many! :silly:

I'll have my laptop with me on the trip too, so can get your numbers off there if I forget to put them in my address book before I leave.

You're going to have your scrapbooks with you?

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: LOL!

This is going to be so much fun! And I really DO want to get copies for our local library. They are VERY big on ancestral research and they have a LOT of local history in the facility. It's called "The Pioneer Room" - very fitting.

Doesn't it drive you nuts when you find someone and they won't help as much as they could?

I have one relative who S L O W L Y doles out the information to me. It drives me nuts.
But she just made a huge mistake. She sent me her Family Tree Maker family tree, in file format, with ALL of her notes in it. She wants me to check it over and make any changes if I find she has any wrong dates, etc. in any part of my family. I don't think she realized that I can read her notes. LOL. Now I have family stories, addresses, phone numbers, you name it, for people I REALLY need to reach. And she said she didn't have them! So guess who is going to be writing some letters and hopefully getting more names, dates and PHOTOS! :) :) :)

I can hardly wait for the end of the month. I wonder if the hotel would mind my wearing a DU bumper sticker plastered to my shirt? I figure it would be the easiest way for you to know who I am. LOL!

4. hee hee...
I actually have a little nametag that Richardo made for those of us Texan DUers who went to the State convention in Houston a few years ago, so I'll try to remember to bring that with me.

And I can put it on in the restaurant so you can find me first. :D Plus, I can PM you my MySpace page link so you can see some other pix.

Rockin! Glad to hear your stupid cousin sent you more than what she thought she did! You can now have the last laugh. I HATE it when people get stingy! I try to send people what I have, but I make them agree that they won't go posting everything online before I get published. #1, I don't want incorrect info out there (which could still happen for the people I don't have documents for yet), and #2, I busted my ASS financially AND physically collecting all this stuff. I don't just want some moron lifting it off rootsweb and saying it's theirs, when I'm the one who worked at putting it all together. I'll use rootsweb to see if anyone else has the info in their tree, but I use their info as a jumping off point and collect all the official documents once I have a clue where and when to look for them.

Not sure how MANY scrapbooks I'll bring, but at least 3 or 4 out of my 8 or 9. Those suckers get heavy carting around all over the nation! :D

I'm looking forward to it. I leave on Sunday! Woo hoo!
