Sen. Ken Salazar will mark his first National Prayer Breakfast as co-host by inviting New Life Church Senior Pastor Brady Boyd and introducing President George W. Bush.
The 56th annual breakfast will be held Thursday in Washington, D.C., and will be hosted by Salazar, a Democrat, and Sen. Michael Enzi, R-Wyo.
"It's a chance to get past the partisanship in Washington, D.C., and it's a place where people of all backgrounds can come together for a common cause — their faith," said Cody Wertz, Salazar's spokesman.
In addition to Boyd, Salazar also invited New Life Church Executive Pastor Ross Parsley to the breakfast.
Boyd and Parsley played huge roles in helping thousands of their church members in Colorado Springs heal their emotional wounds after a gunman killed two sisters and wounded others on Dec. 9 on the grounds of New Life Church.
Salazar and Enzi currently serve as co-chairs of the weekly senators' prayer breakfast.
Past participants at the breakfast have included U2 band singer, Bono; Coretta Scott King; former U.S. Supreme Court Justic Sandra Day O'Connor; and Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. If it is, I can't wait to rub it in their faces. :P
