The Way I Feel Right Now, I'm Not Sure
Edited on Wed May-07-08 12:04 PM by Crisco
I'm going to feel like going to the voting booth in November at all. Given the choice between the vitriol, much of it sexist or gender-based attacks, that's been directed towards HC and on the internet against HC supporters, given the choice between that and the idea that the biggest reason for her to stay in the race right now is to continue to prop up Obama (as some claim, so that he won't be defeated by "uncommitted" in KY & WV) the latter is the worse sting.

The way I feel right now, I'm not going to commit to voting for Obama in the fall until I see what the party is going to offer me beyond the appearance of change.

1. I am with you.

I am waiting for Mr. Obama to win me over. I'm not saying he can't do it. But... I am saying he won't automatically get my vote.

Unless, of course, he chooses Hillary as his VP. In which case I will cut him some slack. For being the "uniter" he claims to be.

2. I want all the votes on the books which have been casts/ counted.
Al Gore will probably come out and push this issue, not endorse anyone but support counting the votes cast by the 50 states.

2209 Delegates Are Needed To Clinch the Nomination

Background: 2209 delegates are needed to clinch the Democratic nomination when ALL states and territories are counted in the process. The DNC’s Rules & Bylaws committee meets on May 31 to consider challenges aimed at ensuring that the ENTIRE country decides the Democratic nominee.

* 2209 delegates are needed to secure the Democratic nomination for President.

* All the states and territories must play a role in the process and the elections from ALL of the states count. A nominee cannot be decided by just 48 states.

* The idea that we’d exclude 2.5 million voters who cast ballots from deciding the nominee is an affront to our democracy and is inconsistent with the ideals on which our nation was founded.

* The Democratic Party is the party committed to making sure that every vote counts. Democrats can’t kick off the general election campaign by disenfranchising the nearly 2.5 million people who voted in Florida and Michigan.

3. I hear you, Crisco,

and also feel the deepest disappointment in a large section of Obama supporters on this website and elsewhere on the Net.

The way in which even on this so-called progressive site minority views and those who hold them are demeaned and mercilessly attacked, along with the most disgusting attacks on a Democratic presidential candidate, now followed by sugary sweet but fake calls for unity and a common fight.....well, I don't feel that unity and call for joined forces at this point.

It sickens me, really. :puke:

The verbal abuse here has been of a kind that I don't feel like being around, and thought was only common on other websites ridiculed here, not on a site that I felt was peopled by most others with common goals, values, and mutual respect.

Add this to not feeling at all inspired yet by the candidate Obama and his rhetoric, I also am taking a good break form the whole process.

4. Yeah. Sure, Part Of It's Just Drama, I Suppose
I just look at that forum and am reminded of a former co-worker who was always very vocal about his support for womens' rights, minority rights, gay rights ... he always said he was down with it and yet couldn't handle being in a position where he saw himself playing second fiddle to a woman; a woman who had more developed skills than he did, and instead of trying to catch up, he actually had the audacity (ha!) to claim she slow down for him. That woman was me. Guys like that make me appreciate my more Libertarian friends.

5. reality check
You folks are not merely imagining the abuse you are getting, as described on this thread. It is real, and it is disgusting and horrific. There are many who also see this, and are just too beaten up and exhausted to weigh in anymore.

So long as Clinton remains in the race and Clinton supporters continue to be abused, I will aggressively defend you and strongly argue for your right to promote and support your candidate.

(Edwards supporter who does not have a preference now.)

6. Looks like some tough decisions lie ahead for many of us.
We'll each have to make our own decisions based on our own circumstances. I'll wait to see what transpires between now and then; but, as it stands now, I don't see myself casting a vote for Obama. I'll probably support every other Dem on the ballot but him.
