I went to my first Hillstars meeting last evening. Here in SW Ohio, we have many activities planned to boost Hill's visibility over the next two and a half weeks. I'll be working the phone banks, attending rallies, organizing a "watch the debate" party. Her polling is very positive here at this point. And we do intend to keep it that way!
I have always been of a mind that we, as a party, would benefit most by having a Clinton/Obama or Obama/Clinton ticket in 2008. I am comfortable with either combination. I can see wisdom in our having Hill at the top, or bottom of the ticket.
So, what is important to me NOW.... is to keep her in the running, to let the DNC, the DLC, and the Obama people know that the near 50% of Americans who like, and vote for Hillary WANT her on the 2008 democratic ticket. We don't want her treated like an asterisk. Or like a pariah. We want her in the White House WITH her real solutions for our real problems..... to balance out Obama's enthusiasm and fresh, new constituencies. We don't want our party "The Democratic Party" hijacked by independents and soft republicans. We welcome them, of course... but this is not about them.
I hear alot of nay-saying about whether Hill and Barack can work together. I say Humbug! If they want to, of course they can! JFK worked with LBJ, didn't he? Even after a bitter battle for top of *that* ticket. Barack and Hillary keep invoking their names. Let's hold their feet to the fire on this! If JFK and LBJ could do it, then BHO and HRC can too! I know Hill is mature enough to do it. I've been watching her for a couple of decades. I have to trust that Barack is also mature enough to understand the need for a coalition here. To be a "uniter, not a divider."
Hillary and Barack, let's bring America together! Let's start with the Dem Party!! As soon as we allow the people of OH, TX and PA to have their voices heard!:pals:
