Does anyone know if the LBGT Community is jumping ship on Hillary? I ask because at my District Meeting we had the candidates for Delegate and I was the ONLY hillary delegate candidate among lots of Obamaites.A really cool lesbian couple who had been ardent Hillary supporters and even thrown events at their home and brought folks in, refused to even come caucus! They acted totally uninterested, as though nothing was at satke. This was really weird. There have been other such instances as well. And Hillary won my state!

1. I wouldn't infer a pattern from that one instance.
My GLBT friends who were for Hillary are still for Hillary, with the exception of one guy who was always for Obama.

LGBTs are definitely informed voters as a group--we have to be--and we're well aware of candidates' records on our issues and their involvement in our community. I can't say why that couple behaved as they did, but I think it's unlikely they defected. If anything, they might just need a wake-up call.

2. Thanks for the answer. My best GLBT friend isn't voting. he says
no one gives a damn about his issues anyway.I was equally stunned by a lovely young woman who is an attorney that gave a stirring defense of the legality of the ERA and why it matter who is campaigning for Obama! I don't get it. I really don't. Maybe I will call the couple and ask them what the deal is.

3. Neither I nor my SO have dumped Hillary
And my SO's mother is more than likely going to become a McCain Democrat than vote for Obama. She just can't see herself leaving the ballot blank, nor is she the "protest vote" type.

4. I am voting as the mom of a gay son
and I won't give up on Hillary.

I simply don't trust Obama on this issue. He has no track record of supporting the LGBT community. And his track record, if you look at the folks he is hanging with, looks not so good.

He'll have to do a little more to prove he is supporting gay rights before I will consider him. None of this "I'm a Christian so I don't believe in gay marriage." Yes... he said it. Uh, er... I am not hiring ANY candidate that will come right out and say "I am going to vote this way based on my religion."

5. Your son is so fortunate to have a mother like you
Much like you, my SO and I very much distrust Obama WRT LGBT rights for the very reasons you mentioned. While his supporters will hawk his voting record, that is simply along party lines and no different than that of HRC. It's his behavior and his speech that gives us pause. We both follow the RRRW's anti-gay agenda closely so we know the religious "code-speak" when we hear it. Obama is very adept at that code-speak, whether he's doing it by habit or on purpose. And that nonsense about being against marriage because of his religious beliefs makes my blood boil. I'm sick to death of LGBT Human/Civil Rights being denied because of the bigoted religious beliefs of others. It's high time that religion stop being a valid excuse for bigotry.

:hi:
