3197560, Clinton spokesman says campaign knew nothing of Obama photo
Posted by Freddie Stubbs on Mon Feb-25-08 04:17 PM

Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) - A spokesman for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton says her campaign knew nothing about a circulating photo showing Barack Obama in traditional garments during a visit to Kenya.

The photo in question shows Obama in a white turban and robe during his 2006 trip. The gossip and news Web site The Drudge Report said the picture is being circulated by "Clinton staffers" and quoted an e-mail from an unidentified campaign aide.

Drudge didn't include proof of the e-mail in its report. Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson says none of the campaign officials have seen the e-mail in question. And he says the campaign would welcome any independent reporting that anyone has done on the matter.

Earlier, aides for Obama accused Clinton's campaign of "shameful, offensive fear-mongering" upon news of the photo's circulation.

2. It is only only DU. Obama believed Drudge and slamed Hillary for
what Drudge published.

Hillary camp denied it but all believe Drudge.

3. I'm listening to Bill Press right now
and he keeps talking about it like Hillary sent out this photo. No mention of possibly Drudge being full of shit or that the photo was already out there.

I'm sure Stephanie Miller, coming up next, will go on and on and on about how she defends Hillary all the time but just can't defend her tactics lately, especially this picture. What is the Clinton camp thinking?? Then she'll play Hillary's "hysterics" from this last weekend and then some of Hillary's "cackle" and say that Obama gives her hope. :eyes:

How low will Hillary's camp go?
TRULY SHAMEFUL | They say they had nothing to do with distributing photo -- but I don't buy it

February 26, 2008
BY MARY MITCHELL marym@suntimes.com

Why would a 2006 photograph of Sen. Barack Obama wearing African tribal garments suddenly show up on the Internet?

Think about it.

What is the point of circulating a photograph of Obama wearing a white turban days before critical primaries, if not to inflame an anti-Muslim sentiment?

snip//

The Rev. Jesse Jackson, who ran for the Democratic Primary in 1984 and 1988, cautioned that Obama's camp can't succumb to the temptation of responding to these negative attacks.

"Sometimes a champion has to play with pain and choose to get ahead rather than to get even," he said.

Having lost her tight grip on college-educated, middle-class, white and black voters, and with Obama racking up endorsements from several large labor unions, Clinton is desperate to hold on to working-class and blue collar workers.

There is obviously a belief that the sight of Obama's participation in a tribal ritual in Kenya will be enough to drive a lot of those voters into Clinton's camp.

That's truly shameful.

Because instead of bridging the divide, Clinton is counting on it.

6. forgive me for saying this, please
but some days I wish she'd drop out so the attacks on her would stop. I want her to win oh-so badly but I am sick of this shit. I would much rather attacks on her came from the right wing. They are easier to take when they aren't from within our party. But there are times where I wish she would drop out and then the right wing could start ripping Obama apart.

I'm sorry, this is just hurts me to see the never-ending attacks and people that will not listen to reason or hear only what they want to hear.

8. I'm listening to Thom Hartmann
and he is so neutral. He defends Hillary and talks about the sexist remarks and says she shouldn't drop out, anyone calling for that is crazy. And so many people call in and say they are tired of the anti-Clinton media and other progressive radio shows being anti-Clinton, etc. He just made a comment on how being a strong man is seen as good but strong women are viewed as bad and yet you want a strong person for president (really paraphrased there). He has been pointing out a lot of things said about Hillary that are unfair or sexist.

It is so refreshing. Too bad his program starts at 2 AM my time.
